The University of Chicago Charter School is a neighborhood charter school on the South Side of Chicago. Comprised of three campuses spanning all grades from early childhood through high school, UChicago Charter is a PreK to 12 superhighway that empowers students to RISE to excellence at every level, cultivating critical thinkers and leaders for success in college and in life. North Kenwood/Oakland, founded in 1998, educates children from prekindergarten to grade five. Donoghue, created in 2005, also serves children from prekindergarten to grade five. Woodlawn, established in 2006, educates students from grade six to grade twelve. Position Summary: The Certified School Nurse (CSN) and Nurse Supervisor coordinates the UChicago Charter School's health program including the delivery of services to students and serves as the health resource to staff members in order to enhance health and wellness in the school community. Responsible for the development of all IEP goals, benchmarks, and accommodations for students requiring health related services. This is a part-time, 30 hours per week, 10-Month position. Duties and Responsibilities: Consult with parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school health issues. Partner with School Directors and school-based nurses in developing and implementing standardized, evidence-based delivery of nursing care to students across campuses. Attend and participate in Special Education eligibility and IEP meetings as appropriate. Assess and respond to needs related to the responsibility of being a school nurse and the requirements of all individual education plans (IEPs). Provide counseling and follow-up services to students with disabilities as delineated in the IEP/504. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to determine if health adversely affects the student's educational process and the development of all IEP goals, benchmarks, and accommodations for students requiring health related services. Maintain state-mandated health records for students to include immunizations and health information. Serve as health consultant and resource person to students, parents, and school personnel Prepare reports and provide information needed by local, county, and state health officials. Prepare and submit health data and reports including health histories Assist school personnel in establishing safe conditions in schools Develop an effective system for the acquisition, maintenance, and use of supplies and equipment for the school health facility Establish safe systems of medication administration and communicable disease containment Provide ongoing training, planning and supervision of school-based nursing activities Regularly connect with continuous professional learning communities (IDPH School Nurse Bootcamp, Comer School Nurse Training) to advance professional practices Conduct and chair regular nursing staff meetings to articulate, coordinate and facilitate on-going health services. Assist in planning, prioritization and researching of staff development activities for School Nurses Serve as a resource person to site level health personnel to assist them in effectively improving health services Monitor school-based nurses for compliance with CPS policies, adherence to physician orders and disease management plans, as well as compliance with mandated documentation requirements Participate in the evaluation process of the school-based nurses with the appropriate School Director input Review requests for time off and ensure appropriate campus coverage. Comply with and assist in upholding state, district, and school policies and administrative regulations. Other duties as assigned. Position Qualifications: Bachelors of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university is required. Must have an active Illinois license to practice as issued by the IL Department of Professional Regulations. Must have an active Professional Educator License (PEL) endorsed as a School Nurse through the Illinois State Board of Education. Must be CPR/AED certified. Previous nursing experience in a school environment or working with children and youth is preferred. Previous experience working with children from culturally diverse backgrounds is required. Ability to formulate procedures for general health, vision, and hearing screenings for students required. Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate nursing functions; and maintain emotional control under emergencies and high priority tasks. Reflective and receptive to professional feedback and coaching. Possess strong written and oral communication skills. Commitment to the success and achievement of all students. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community partners. Ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders. Salary Range $75,000 - $96,293 The included pay rate or range represents the University of Chicago Charter School's good faith estimate of the possible compensation offer for this role at the time of posting. The salary will be commensurate of years of experience and education.
