Summary GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for serving on the patient care team for an assigned area including direct patient care as an unlicensed professional and under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Incorporates the primary job functions of a certified nursing assistant (CNA), patient care technician (PCT), medication aide, and other duties related to the care of patients, dependent upon the work area and/or patient populations to which they are assigned. Provides professional care within the educational background and in compliance with any applicable licensure/certification requirement and organization policy and procedures. Reports to Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, Administrative Manager or licensed nurses (LPN/RN). Must have active Nebraska CNA and be listed on the DHHS Medication Aide Registry. Refers all physician telephone orders to a licensed professional. 6. Assists in collecting specific information from patients and contributes to admission, transfer and dismissal processes when delegated by a Licensed Nurse, and with responsibility for patient assessment being performed by a Licensed Nurse; ensures timely reporting and recording of patient's Electronic Medical Record (EMR). 7. *Assists with patient care that is consistent with standards of care and clinical priorities determined by the Licensed Nurse with the nature of the area/unit, patient care division policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management and infection control practices. 8. *Performs and documents routine direct nursing care tasks according to identified age-specific needs. 9. Obtains and records vitals, height, weight and bedside glucose results; reports results to appropriate personnel. 10. *Performs Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) for assigned patients and documents in the EMR. 11. *Responsible for labeling and securing patient care belongings and ensuring that the patient room is safe and uncluttered. 12. *Distributes patient’s meals/water and assists with feeding of patients as needed. 13. Assists with ambulation, lifting and positioning according to procedure, including the appropriate use of patient lift devices and use of good body mechanics. 14. Assists with transporting patients, including at time of transfer and/or dismissal. 15. *Assists patients with elimination needs and measures/records bodily elimination in medical record. 16. Bathes patients as directed by the Licensed Nurse. 17. Participates as a member of the team in Hourly Patient Rounds to proactively address patient needs. 18. Provides close observation or one-to-one care, as directed by the Licensed Nurse, to prevent patients from wandering or potential injury. 19. Collects, accurately labels and transports specimens to lab as required. 20. Assists with dressing changes, applying splints, setting up suturing and procedures, and wound care on closed wounds as directed by Licensed Nurse. 21. *Cleans, stocks and cares for supplies and equipment in assigned work area. 22. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 23. All teaching is documented on the FER to include understanding of topics taught. Provider Support Gathers patient information in a timely, concise, thorough manner and conveys this to the MD. Performs special tasks, procedures within the scope of practice for an RN that is unique to Ambulatory Care clinics i.e. (database entry, scheduling of special procedures, as well as assisting in special procedures, inpatient role, case management, and education/teaching). Summary SUMMARY The Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for meeting patient's priority needs by assessing, participating in interdisciplinary care planning, providing and /or delegating care and evaluating patients' responses and progress toward clinical outcomes. The Staff RN contributes to an efficient and effective work environment through activities including professional communication and documentation, preceptoring and/or resourcing of others. The Staff RN supervises Licensed Practical Nurses and/or other support staff in the delivery of patient care as described in Nebraska Statute 38. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. *Initiates assessment and reassessment based on the patient's presenting problems/needs in accordance with Bryan Medical Center's procedures. *Synthesizes pertinent initial and ongoing patient data to identify nursing priorities for care and desired outcomes/goals. *Integrates appropriate standards of care into the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis and age-specific needs. *Executes therapeutic and/or supportive interventions. *Provides education for the patient and family to meet identified patient needs according to their needs, abilities, preferences and readiness to learn. *Evaluates the patient's response to and effectiveness of interventions. *Evaluates patient's progress toward established outcomes. *Incorporates cultural considerations into the plan/delivery of care. *Includes family or significant others in the care of the patient as appropriate. *Documents patient care and related information according to Bryan Medical Center procedures for documentation. *Provides care in conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team. *Facilitates patient's transition to the next level of care. *Actively participates in continued learning opportunities and continued self-development pertinent to the work unit and duties of the job. QUALIFICATIONS: Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Must provide evidence of certification and/or instruction for practice area as required by State or Federal standards/regulations. Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required.
