Job Description Harborview Medical Center Inpatient Acute Care Float APP (ARNP; Nurse Practitioner; or PA-C, Physician Assistant) This opening is for 100% FTE, Days; (and with weekend and holiday coverage, and with the potential for some night shifts). The Inpatient Acute Care Float APP team is composed of licensed physician assistants and nurse practitioners who are skilled and trained to work across multiple services at Harborview (currently including General Surgery, Medicine Polytrauma Service, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, & Burns). Float APPs possess the ability to adapt quickly to different clinical environments and provide comprehensive care. They play a critical role, filling in when there are staffing shortages, leaves and fluctuating demands. Work is performed 7 days a week with general independence and decision-making responsibility under the general guidance of the attending physicians or fellows, lead APP and APP assistant director. Guidelines include general policy procedures and practice guidelines established by the department and Harborview Medical Center, as well as appropriate professional and technical manuals. Roles & Responsibilities Practice high quality evidence-based medicine within the scope of a licensed APP in the inpatient acute care setting including: Rotating among inpatient services including but not limited to General Surgery, Medicine Polytrauma Service, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, & Burns Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and physical examinations Diagnose and manage acute & chronic medical conditions Develop and implement individualized treatment plans Monitor and evaluate patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary Perform procedures within one’s scope and training as appropriate Order and interpret diagnostic tests Prescribe and manage medications Coordinate patient care with multidisciplinary teams, fostering a cooperative atmosphere that promotes effective communication and teamwork Provide patient and family education Engage in patient discharge planning and follow-up care coordination Document patient care and maintain accurate medical records Participate in quality improvement initiatives and safety protocols Complete learning modules and participate in continuing education Provide mentorship and guidance as appropriate to other staff and students Requirements Nurse Practitioner: Masters or Doctorate Degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing AND Washington State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License with prescriptive privileges AND National certification as an ACNP (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner); (FNPs/Family Nurse Practitioners with at least 3 years of APP/provider level experience in acute care will also be considered). Physician Assistant: Licensure as a Physician’s Assistant in the State of Washington AND national certification from a national certifying body (NCCPA) BLS/ACLS certification required Applicant must be eligible to receive hospital staff appointments for adjunct staff membership by the Organized Medical Staff of the hospital under Medical Staff By-Laws for hospital-based positions. To be considered for the role, please apply at the following link: Position Details - Academic Personnel & Faculty The University of Washington’s Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is seeking an ARNP/PA for full-time (1.0) at the rank of Teaching Associate. Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The ARNP/PA is a member of the inter-professional gastroenterology and hepatology team that includes attending physicians, gastroenterology and hepatology trainees, multidisciplinary specialists (social workers, dieticians, pharmacists, psychiatrists) , other physician assistants, and nurse practitioners providing care for patients with gastrointestinal and liver disease in the inpatient and outpatient settings. A successful applicant will provide care independently and collaboratively with other team members. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The positions will provide clinical services at the UWMC-Montlake with a focus in Hepatology and Transplant Hepatology. Duties will include providing hepatology consultative services for outpatients including General Hepatology, Transplant Hepatology and Liver Tumor clinics. The hepatology team includes attending physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, as well as clinic staff including nurses and medical assistants. Estimated start date of October 1, 2026. The base salary range for this position will be: $10,833 - $15,417 per month ($129,996 - $185,004 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Qualifications Graduate Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or graduate of an accredited PA program, or foreign equivalent. Current and valid licensure as an ARNP or PA-C in Washington State. Nationally certified ARNP/PA with DEA. Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and clinical expertise in the care of patients with chronic and acute gastrointestinal and liver illnesses.
