Full-Time Trauma Nurse Coordinator | UPMC Hamot Monday-Friday | Day Shift Join a dedicated and collaborative team committed to advancing trauma care across our region. The Trauma Services Department works closely with trauma surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, nursing staff, hospital leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest quality care for injured patients. This role offers a unique opportunity to impact patient outcomes beyond the bedside while contributing to trauma care improvements at the hospital, system, state, and national levels. The Trauma Nurse Coordinator serves as a clinical leader, educator, patient advocate, and quality improvement specialist responsible for coordinating and supporting all aspects of the trauma program. Working in partnership with the Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Program Administrator, and multidisciplinary teams, the Trauma Nurse Coordinator helps ensure the delivery of timely, evidence-based, and patient-centered trauma care across the continuum of treatment. This position plays a critical role in trauma program operations, performance improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, injury prevention efforts, and trauma education. The coordinator collaborates with physicians, nurses, ancillary departments, and community partners to promote optimal patient outcomes and maintain adherence to trauma center standards established by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) and other accrediting organizations. As an integral member of the Trauma Services team, the Trauma Nurse Coordinator provides leadership through clinical expertise, educational initiatives, quality improvement activities, and community outreach programs designed to improve trauma care and reduce preventable injuries. Aggregates information and data related to trauma care delivery system to insure accurate tracking and trending of trauma data. Creates a caring and compassionate patient focused experience by building healthy relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. Maintains all performance improvement documentation including but not limited to patient performance files, mortality and morbidity, and practice guidelines. Manages the data flow process for concurrent quality issues and directs each to appropriate personnel. Assists with organizational preparation of the PTSF survey and application process. Monitors compliance with the PTSF standards related to quality of care. Management of the Pennsylvania Outcomes and Performance Improvement Measurement System (POPIMS). Participates in scholarly activities including writing for publication, abstracts, or poster presentations at conferences. Collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Administrator to develop and maintain a set of quality indicators for the trauma program. I ntegrates trauma quality improvement with the hospital quality program. Reviews PTSF quarterly reports and indicates trends for review. Maintains credentialing data on all trauma practitioners. Performs concurrent medical record monitoring and data collection. Ensures that all components of the trauma program meet the quality assurance standards as established by the hospital. Graduate of an approved school of nursing for registered nurses BSN Required MSN Preferred Minimum 3 years clinical nursing experience Minimum 1 year trauma clinical nursing experience Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse license or eligible for State Board Licensure. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Registered Nurse (RN) Act 34 Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy provider course with recertification every two years; ONS certification preferred with recertification every four years. Special computer and use of electronic medical records skills utilized. Recognizes and reports findings outside the normal range for this age group. Observes lab values pertinent to specific diagnosis and therapy. Reports abnormal to physician. Ability to communicate and serves as a liaison between patient’s family and services needed. Two to three years oncology experience, competent intravenous skills. Completion of Comprehensive Cancer and chemotherapy course for new oncology nurses. ONS chemotherapy provider card required within 6 months of employment. OCN certification preferred. Current State Nursing License. Monitors and supervises quality of patients' care of assigned location(s). Processes emergency calls and requests for assistance. Assists with problem solving for patients in all settings Prepares, monitors, and reviews monthly bills, supply costs, expense requests, mileage reimbursement, payroll and other expenses. Makes recommendations for service area regarding market opportunities for new programs or service. Ensures accuracy of marketing materials, public information materials and activities. Provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, customers and employees. Investigates and completes detailed reports of any incidents/accidents, grievances, complaints, medication errors and other problems within the time frames established by policy, and implements corrective and/or preventive action immediately. Works with physicians, patients, families, staff and others regarding problems, needs and concerns. Responsible for supervision and evaluation of family satisfaction surveys. Incorporates safety topics into staff meetings. Regularly reviews safety policies and procedures (to include the Emergency Preparedness Plan); ensures that all employees are oriented to and understand their role in safety policies and procedures. Manages Financial Resources prudently and effectively. Completes financial reviews on recommended schedule. Budget worksheets are completed and submitted by scheduled deadlines. Annual expenditures are within annual budget except where variances are volume driven and have been approved. Resource needs are anticipated and budgets are planned to meet those needs within known parameters. Budget variances are justified on a regularly scheduled basis. Continually seeks ways to reduce costs without affecting quality. Controls use of overtime and temporary personnel except when justified by increased volume or decreased staffing levels. Recommends space and other resources for needed services. May be asked to perform routine visits to patient homes or institutional setting and/or participate in on-call schedule. Education: Registered Nurse with minimum of Associate’s Degree in Nursing required Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred. Experience: Three to five years’ healthcare sales/ management experience preferred. Minimum one year management/supervisory experience required. Two or more years’ experience in hospice/home care required Meets all state-specific requirements for the Administrator role. Three years’ experience in direct patient care in a clinical setting preferred. Strong understanding of hospice regulations, compliance, and Medicare conditions of participation Proven ability to manage teams, budgets, and interdisciplinary operations . Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills Commitment to high-quality, compassionate care for patients and families.
