Registered Nurse Telemetry

Overview Shift Available: Nights Employment Type: Part-Time Hours: 7:00pm-7:00am (12-hour shifts) Location: St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, MO We are seeking a Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN), sometimes referred to as a Telemetry RN or Tele RN. A Tele RN specializing in attending to patients within our telemetry units, including those needing cardiac monitoring. The Tele RN will monitor and interpret our patient's vital signs, such as heart rate, heart rhythm, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation level. Continuous monitoring of patients, by the Telemetry RN enables gathering real-time data to make informed decisions regarding patient care, ensuring early detection of abnormalities or changes in the patient's condition. Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to): Recognizes signs of abuse and reports appropriately to the hospital social worker and/or Adult / Child Protective Services. Familiar with the EMTALA Regulations. Responsible for the observation and direction of patient lifts, mobilization, and shall participate as needed in patient handling. Attends and maintains mandatory training in safe patient handling, trained in safe lifting techniques, includes but not limited to 1) Appropriate use of lifting devices and equipment, 2) Five areas of body exposure: vertical, lateral, bariatric repositioning and ambulation, 3) Use of lifting devices to handle patients safely. Uses professional judgment and clinical assessment in safe patient handling that are consistent with Safe Patient Handling policies. Uses two patient identifiers consistently when drawing lab, administering medications and performing procedures. Follows medication reconciliation policy consistently. Does not use unacceptable abbreviations in documentation (uses read back on all telephone orders.) Monitors authentication and validation of telephone orders within 24 hours by the physician. Ensures consistently that all clinical alarms, i.e. cardiac monitors are set with the appropriate parameters for the patient and are audible at all times. Qualifications Education and Work Experience Current and valid state RN License. Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current. Basic Arrythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire. Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current. Previous Acute Care hospital experience preferred. Ventilator Management experience preferred. Medical-Surgical Nurse-Board Certified (RN-BC) or similar certification; preferred. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive care to surgical patients from pre-op assessments through their recovery in the PACU. Your expertise will ensure a smooth and safe transition for patients through every phase of their surgical journey. As a perioperative RN , you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care throughout the surgical process. In the OR, you will assist in preparing patients for surgery and supporting surgical teams during procedures. In the PACU, you will closely monitor patients as they recover from anesthesia, providing pain management, addressing potential complications, and ensuring their safe and comfortable transition out of immediate post-op care. Key Responsibilities: Operating Room: Provide comprehensive care during surgeries, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and efficiency. Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the OR team to deliver high-quality care. Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU): Monitor patients as they recover from anesthesia, manage post-operative pain, and assess vital signs to ensure patient stability. Provide support and education to patients and their families about the recovery process. Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments to ensure patients are physically and mentally prepared for surgery. Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement personalized care plans. Participate in the education and mentoring of nursing students and new staff members. Contribute to departmental committees, research projects, and quality improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with the Missouri Nurse Practice Act, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements. Minimum Qualifications: Registered Nurse (RN): Current Missouri RN license or eligibility to obtain licensure. BCLS Certification: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required and maintained. ACLS Certification: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 90 days of hire and maintained. PALS Certification (if required): Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, if required by department. Radiology Certification (if applicable): Must have received radiology training during nursing education or be trained and validated through competency assessments if radiology functions are part of the role. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): BSN preferred. Critical Care Experience: Prior critical care or surgical nursing experience is highly desirable.
