REPORTS TO: Charge Nurse, Supervisor and Director of Nursing Services (DNS) Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to write legibly. Physically able to perform the required duties of a Certified Nursing Assistant. Experience as a Nursing Assistant in an acute care or long-term care setting. RESPONSIBILITIES: Residents Provides or assists with bed bath, tub bath, whirlpool and showers. (Supervises safety of same.) Provides personal grooming: i.e. hair, nails, shaving, personal clothing, mouth care, perineal care. Prepares laundry for pick-up and return. Adheres to the proper procedure for cleaning thermometers/IVAC. Rehabilitation Assists in ambulation, transfers, ROM exercises and good body alignment where indicated. Uses adaptive devices properly. Cooperates with all rehab disciplines. Keeps accountability sheets up to date with signatures as required. Testing of Urine and Collecting of Specimens Has knowledge of proper procedure. Records results. Informs nurse of results. Assignments Receives daily report from nurse. Consults assignment for special duties and sets proper priorities for following through on assignment. Is familiar with and takes proper action in meeting physical needs of resident. Routinely checks and keeps in order all residents' belongings: i.e. clothing, glasses, hearing aid, prosthesis aid, adaptive devices, etc. Ensures that residents on turning schedule is positioned every two hours or as ordered, and documented. Ensures that residents on toileting schedule are assisted as needed, and documented. Resident is kept clean and dry. Gives assistance to co-workers when needed. Uses good handwashing techniques. Cooperation Works well with co-workers and supervisors. Maintains appropriate relationship with residents, families and peers. Gives assistance to other departments: i.e. recreation, when necessary.
