Bachelor's degree in Nursing, or related field required for new hires effective 9/2019. A minimum of three years’ experience in clinical nursing in a hospital setting is required. Additional experience in home care, transitional care, or insurance arena, preferred Certification in Case Management is preferred. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Experience in utilization management, case management, and/or discharge planning is strongly preferred. About this Job: General Summary of Position Functions as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse for assigned patients and their families/significant others. Assists medical and nursing staff with procedures and/or tests and patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Performs specific care activities such as specimen collection electrocardiography (EKG) and documentation in the health record.Incumbents in this position may perform all or a combination of the duties described depending upon the assigned work area and the specific needs of the patients and the department. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality and safety standards and SPIRIT Values. Complies with governmental regulations and accreditation standards. Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and personal hygiene including bathing mouth care dressing skin care positioning feeding ambulation toileting and range of motion activities. Assists with patient mobilization and rehabilitation use of crutches and walkers and transfer/transport of patients in wheelchairs and stretchers. Collects specimens (e.g. blood urine sputum stool); and obtains EKGs. Assists in the measurement and documentation of patient's intake and output (I&O). Accurately takes and records patient's vital signs height and weight pulse oximetry point of care and waived testing (i.e. finger sticks for glucose monitoring/Accucheck urine dipstick hemoccult) and other pertinent data or information in the patient's health record. Performs routine sterile non-sterile (e.g. application of thermal soaks) and other treatments/activities identified by Unit/Hospital policy inclusive of but not limited to: tube feedings; ostomy care; Foley Catheter care; perineal care; simple dressing changes and wound care; turning and positioning; postmortem care and transportation of body to the morgue; and assistance with the application maintenance and removal of traction casts splints and exercise equipment. Maintains the comfort privacy and confidentiality and dignity of each patient in the delivery of services. Performs patient observation duty including 1:1 observation and safe application of restraints. Prepares patients to be seen by providers. Assists providers and registered nurses in patient examinations and procedures. Rounds on all assigned patients based on established standards (e.g. hourly purposeful rounding). Reports actual and potential problems concerning patients/families including changes in the patient's condition to the registered nurse and other care team members as necessary. Ensures complete hand off to oncoming shift and obtains full hand off from outgoing shift. Initiates and assists in CPR when indicated. Participates in patient/family teaching as directed and responds to questions from patients families and visitors in a prompt courteous and respectful manner referring them to appropriate personnel if necessary. Maintains the cleanliness and safety of patient rooms/environment by distributing and changing linen/towels removing used meal trays checking bed siderails and safety restraints etc. Assists with environmental services support such as linen management trash removal and cleaning patient rooms as needed. Transports and/or escorts patients during discharges transfers and/or medical appointments. Completes errands such as delivering specimens to the laboratory equipment and supplies etc. as required. Receives and stocks equipment and supplies and maintains orderly supply and utility rooms. As a Nurse Coordinator you will be stationed at the Towson hospital campus working Day and Evening shifts 7a.m.-7p.m., 36 hours weekly with rotating weekends. This position supports two units - Adult Co-Occurring Disorders Unit The Co-Occurring Disorders Unit is a safe and welcoming inpatient unit that is specially designed for the treatment of adults ages 18 to 65 who are experiencing more than one mental health condition. The individuals could be experiencing multiple psychiatric issues, which may include a substance use disorder. Many are experiencing recurring problems, triggered by stressful situations, life problems, and more. No matter how individuals come into our care, we help individuals safely get through this period of crisis and begin (or continue) their journey towards recovery. We are a short term psychiatric inpatient unit; we are not a rehabilitation facility, but are a starting point in the process of recovery. Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit The Crisis Stabilization Unit at Sheppard Pratt’s Towson campus is a safe and welcoming 22-bed inpatient unit that is specially designed for the treatment of adults with a mental illness. Individuals generally come to our unit for care after experiencing suicidal ideation, a suicide attempt, severe anxiety, or generally unsafe behavior. In general, we treat individuals who are experiencing one or more of the following disorders: major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety, bipolar disorder, a personality disorder, a dissociative disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. As a Staff Nurse you will: Perform a full range of professional psychiatric nursing services, including assessing, planning, administering, and evaluating patient care in accordance with team treatment plans. Administer medical treatment as prescribed by physician. Teach and provide psychosocial support to patients and their families. Provide day-to-day clinical direction to assigned Mental Health Workers or other paraprofessional staff. Document and report patient progress to treatment team. Requirements: Must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Maryland (or compact state) at time of appointment and continuously while in position. Experience in a psychiatric nursing setting preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of nursing-acquired through at least one year of inpatient RN experience; prior LPN inpatient experience will be considered with every one year of LPN experience equating to 6 months RN experience All new clinical staff will begin their extended clinical orientation/training immediately following your first day of employment. About this Job: Unit Highlights The 5 West Surgical Unit has the capacity to serve up to (20) patients with a focus on a variety of surgical specialty patients. Many of these patients have elective surgeries and are discharged within 1-2 days of their procedure. These specialties include but are not limited to: Orthopedic, Bariatric, General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Spinal Surgery. Staff are uniquely trained to work with these patients as they are educated in general post-operative patient care as well as the aspects of each specialty care domain. Staff on this unit will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team which includes: PACU staff, Attending Surgical Providers, Surgical Physician Assistants, Hospitalists, Physical Therapy/Rehab, Respiratory Therapy, and of course Nursing.
