Overview About the Role The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse - OBGYN position is to provide patient care (neonate to maturity) based on the identified individualized needs of assigned patients and families within the clinical nursing role. The Staff Nurse will assess, screen, evaluate, educate, and provide care management/outcome management in accordance with professional nursing standards and patient needs. The role of the Staff Nurse also includes practice/office support. Overview About the Role The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a skilled health provider who through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. As a member of the Medical Staff the APN demonstrates standards of professional practice that includes ethical decision making, job activities related to quality assessment/improvement, self- evaluation, leadership, and research. The APN is self-directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency.In this role, with a specialized focus on prenatal patients, the APN will utilize critical judgment in the performance of comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and the prescribing of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of patients diagnosed with a variety of Medical/Psychiatric conditions/diseases. The APN practice will promote maternal and fetal wellness through patient education, preventative care and participation in research initiatives. Functioning both autonomously and as part of an interdisciplinary team, the APN serves as a clinical resource and consultant, supporting coordinated care across the prenatal continuum. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Collects comprehensive patient health data/history including past and present medical, surgical, family and social history. Diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the patient’s status are collected and interpreted. Completes the medication reconciliation process by documenting the current list of medications (including over the counter and nutritional supplements) taken by patient at each visit. Conducts clinical rounds on F-Green, Labor & Delivery, Outpatient Pediatrics and OB/GYN units. Proactively identifies patients with elevated maternal depression or psychiatric risk factors and ensures comprehensive pre- discharge engagement. Provides medical and psychiatric care to patients on the Inpatient unit, in the ED, on medical floors and/or in the Outpatient Clinics. Provides education to patients and families to maximize their utilization of insurance, resources, and physician recommended care practices to improve overall quality of life. Ensure that bedfast residents are repositioned as directed by NCC but not less than two repositions per resident hourly. Performs restorative and rehabilitative activities as instructed and as directed by Plan of Care. Assists in applying safety restraints to residents when directed; Monitors residents in restraints, release restraints and documents according to policy and procedure Ensures that each resident who can use a call bell has one within reach and remind him/her to use it. Assists co-workers with lifting, positioning and other procedures as necessary. Be aware of facility policy on child abuse and/or neglect and promptly report any instances of abusive or inappropriate behaviors towards any resident to the NCC. Knows and follows The Center policy and procedure with regard to infection control including hand washing and types of isolation. Keep resident care area clean and free of clutter. Report any unsafe conditions immediately to NCC. Properly stores and safeguard residents’ clothing and reports too many or too few clothing and or toys to NCC. Feeds residents or teaches residents to feed themselves as appropriate. Responsibilities The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse position is to be accountable for the care activities, safetyand goal achievements of assigned patients through assessing, diagnosing, planning and intervening in actual or potential health problemsand evaluating patient’s response to the care. These responsibilities also include patient education and discharge planning. Under the direction of the RN, the Psychiatric Nursing Assistant (PNA) performs the activities related to the implementation of nursing care plans and the nursing standards, policies and procedures. The PNA is responsible for contributing to the development, evaluation and reassessment of care plans through observing and reporting changes in patient behavior and physical status. The PNA is also responsible for assisting in the maintenance of the safe and therapeutic environment of the unit. The individual is competent to care for patients in the following age groups: adult (ages 19 - 64) and geriatric (ages 65 +).
