Position Summary: Functions as a member of the clinical team performing a supportive role in the delivery of patient care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable. Position Key Accountabilities: 1. Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction. 2. Effectively participates in planning and preparing for patient visits ensuring appropriate schedules, test results, and clinic specific requirements are available. 3. Rooms patients consistent with clinic needs while determining and documenting chief complaint and reason for visit, vital signs, medication list, allergies, smoking history and other information as required by clinic. Keeps patients informed of delays and progress of clinical appointments. 4. As required and competency validated, performs appropriate hearing and vision testing, EKG, spirometry, point of care testing, specimen collection, equipment cleaning/reprocessing and other requested procedures. 5. Prepares and stocks rooms (daily/weekly) and clinic supplies in advance of clinic visit as well as cleaning rooms appropriately between patients. 6. Prepares for and assists with routine and specialty procedures. 7. Schedules patients for follow up appointments or referrals and performs routine clerical duties for team and staff to include photocopying, scanning, and faxing. 8. Performs telephone messaging and in person screening with appropriate follow up. 9. Respects and maintains privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines. 10. Performs other duties as assigned. Certification/Skills: Use and care of standard clinic equipment Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent Completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program preferred Minimum Experience: Six months experience or completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training Program. Even though most patients do not remember the PAT / PreOp / PACU nurse that attended to their needs, they play an imperative role in helping patients start on the road to recovery. POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Pre-admissions Testing Nurse Duties: Pre-admission testing nurse or PAT nurse duties include overseeing intake, during which you perform an initial physical assessment and interview the patient to obtain their medical history. PAT duties include performing any tests the surgeon has ordered, such as an EKG, and may be expected to draw blood for lab work. PAT nurses are often among the first people patients deal with as they prepare to have surgery. The PAT nurse is expected to help patients understand the process, answer any questions they might have, and discuss their post-surgical care plan with them. Preoperative Duties of Nurse: Manage patients’ admission processes to preoperative department in a hospital. Assess the status of patients’ health in pre-op and ensure accuracy of identification wristband. Ensure that operative and informed consents are in order. Determine the surgeon and procedure being carried out. Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure. Initiate IVs and ensure that patients are informed about the procedure and attending medical staff. Post-operative Duties of PACU Nurse: Assess patients’ condition after a surgery has been performed. Ensure that all vitals are within normal range. Log all findings in patients’ files. Answer patients’ questions and ensure that they are kept comfortable. Make sure that all relevant IVs are in check. Develop individualized care plans based on each individual patient’s condition. Ensure that all nursing activities are carried out in accordance to the individual patient care plan. Monitor patients for condition changes and report any changes to the doctor. Initiate patient education programs to ensure that both patients and families are educated on procedures and medications. Determine when patients are ready to be moved to their rooms. Perform intervention duties in cases of post-operative emergencies. Record sedation levels and body temperature. Manage blood and fluid transfusions and draw specimens.
