DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work under direct supervision of MD, PA-C or NP to provide excellent patient care to all clients that come to Urgent Care. Is able to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and performs reassessments as per policy. This includes: pediatric, geriatric, the general patient population, and EMTALA appropriate medical screening exams. Adequately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Revises plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment. Performs waived testing (point-of-care testing) per clinical laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures as needed when the lab tech is unavailable and performs tests in a timely manner. Is able to interpret results of waived tests accurately, taking appropriate action on waived tests’ results. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age. Is knowledgeable of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Formulates a teaching plan based on identified patient learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate. Capably assists providers with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills. Is able to perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Consults other departments as appropriate for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs. Communicates appropriately and clearly to nurse manager, co-workers and physicians. JOB SUMMARY: The nurse will attend to quality patient care in the pre-procedural and post-procedural settings before interventional radiology and interventional cardiology procedures, as well as overseeing nursing care of the patient during non-invasive cardiac procedures including transesophageal echocardiograms and cardioversion. The nurse will assist with patient pre-assessment and scheduling, obtaining required pre-procedural documentation and diagnostic tests, and obtaining IV access. The nurse will also facilitate intraprocedural assessment and monitoring, administration of conscious sedation to the patient during non-invasive cardiac procedures, and monitoring and recovery of cardiac catheterization laboratory and interventional radiology patients post procedurally. The pre/post procedure RN must be a patient care expert in all aspects of procedural preparation and recovery. Expertise and experience with vascular access sites is preferred. The nurse will oversee and monitor the patient for decompensation and complications before, during, and after cardiology and radiology procedures, administer medications and conscious sedation, and function cohesively and communicate effectively within the cardiology/radiology team. Education And/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Training in topics related to human development and interpersonal relationships, nutrition, food handling, and principals of cleanliness and safety. Clean driving record Skills and Abilities Experience with hands-on caregiving, including personal care and mobility support. Ability to communicate effectively with patient/client, family members, clinical management, and staff. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Communication skills, light housekeeping skills, cooking, cleaning, and shopping. Caring attitude, tact, patience, and good personal hygiene. Physical Demands The work requires light physical exertion on a regular and recurring basis such as driving and light housekeeping. Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and occasionally required to sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
