Location: Salem Hospital 890 Oak Street SE, Salem, Oregon 97301 Department: General Medical Unit Position Type: Full Time, 36 hours/week, Non-Exempt Schedule: 7:00 pm - 7:30 am, 12-hour shifts, variable scheduled days Your role with us: The General Medical Unit is one of four medical surgical units that provide care to a highly diverse population with diagnoses of heart failure, sepsis, renal failure, respiratory failure, COVID and patients with multiple co-morbidities. Patients have multiple medical diagnoses offering a variety of healthcare experiences for nurses. Medical Surgical Nurses develop a well-rounded knowledge base and are able to care for a wide range of different patients. The wide range of diagnoses coupled with the Care in Place model makes for a highly satisfying specialty. Nurses have the experience of caring for patients holistically and interact with multiple disciplines to navigate their patients through the hospital stay. They strive to provide an exceptional experience every time to patients and their families. What you'll do Perform comprehensive, age-appropriate assessments and communicate findings to the healthcare team. Develop individualized care plans considering medical, cultural, social, and developmental factors. Deliver nursing interventions in alignment with policies, patient needs, and care goals, including emergency response. Involve patients and families in care, promote self-care, and support education based on learning readiness. Accurately document all aspects of patient care, including assessments, interventions, education, and outcomes. Communicate clearly and effectively using SBAR, providing timely updates and coordinating with the team. Demonstrate leadership through evidence-based practice, mentoring, and effective charge nurse responsibilities. Support a safe care environment by following infection control practices and equipment safety protocols. Manage time and resources efficiently, including cross-training, floating, and maintaining supply levels. Actively engage in professional development and contribute to unit-based improvement initiatives. Required qualifications Bachelor of Science (BSN) or non-nursing bachelor's degree with a Master of Science in nursing (MSN). Candidates with an associate's degree in nursing (ADN) and graduates of a diploma RN program are also encouraged to apply; ADN applicants with less than five years of acute care experience will be required to sign an agreement committing to complete their BSN or MSN degree within three years of hire. What you'll do Deliver intraoperative nursing care for elective and emergent procedures across multiple specialties. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient surgical workflows. Perform accurate, ongoing patient assessments before, during, and after procedures. Support trauma-level surgical cases as part of a 24/7 coverage team. Utilize state-of-the-art surgical equipment and technology. Location Site: Salem Hospital, 890 Oak Street SE, Salem, Oregon 97301 Department: Float Pool Position Type: Full time, 36 hours/week, Non-Exempt Schedule: 7:00 pm – 7:30 am, 12 hour shifts, variable scheduled days Your role with us As a valued member of the Salem Health Float Pool, you’ll play a critical role in supporting a wide range of units across our organization, including Inpatient rehabilitation, psychiatric medical center, and our sister facility, West Valley Hospital in Dallas, Oregon. You’ll deliver care across all levels, from medical surgical to intermediate care, serving a diverse adult inpatient population. This dynamic role offers a unique opportunity to broaden your clinical expertise by working in multiple specialties. What you'll do Performs accurate, ongoing, and age-appropriate assessments for each assigned patient. Reports and consults pertinent data with the healthcare team and takes appropriate action. Demonstrates competency in delivering care based on the individualized patient care plan. Follows Salem Health–West Valley Hospital policies and procedures for all nursing skills. Initiates and/or reviews care plans with patients and families to address holistic, age-specific needs. Adjusts care plans to reflect changes in the patient’s condition. Consistently documents assessments, plans, interventions, and patient responses accurately. Anticipates patient and team needs, sharing relevant information proactively. Helps maintain a safe unit environment by following infection control policies, replacing sharps containers, removing broken equipment, and using proper lifting and transfer techniques.
