Bargaining Unit PEF Job Summary The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse Supervisor 1, Emergency Room. The Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 (T&RC) is supervisory level, and provides administrative and clinical supervision to lower-level registered nurses and direct care staff; oversees and coordinates nursing services for an assigned unit; and may be involved in teaching and orientation functions. Illustrative Duties Plans, directs, and supervises nursing services on an assigned unit, including direct supervision of Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) and other staff. Directs the development and implementation of nursing care plans on a unit. Provides individual care, and functions as an educator and nursing services expert. Assesses work methods of nursing staff and provides feedback to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of care delivered. Coordinates medical and nursing care needs with other health care providers and departments. Ensures proper functioning of equipment and unit compliance with safety and environmental standards. Monitors nursing care quality standards, and implements corrective actions as needed. Attends and participates in medical committees to represent nursing staff needs and the individual population, and participates in writing of care standards. Identifies staff training needs and collaborates with unit educators to develop and implement educational programs. Develops and implements orientation plans for new employees and participates in staffing decisions. Required Qualifications Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and 3-years of post-licensure acute care clinical nursing experience. A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing can substitute for 1-year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a Master’s Degree in Nursing can substitute for 2-years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience. Duties Description Are you a Registered Nurse with experience in nurse education and training? Kingsboro Psychiatric Center is currently recruiting a Registered Nurse 3 (Psychiatric Educator) to plan, design, and develop training curriculum to improve the knowledge, skills, and abilities of nursing staff. As a Registered Nurse 3 (Psychiatric Educator), you would: Plan, design, and develop orientation and training curriculum for nursing staff; Provide on the job training Clinically supervise staff in the provision of nursing services Evaluate training needs and modify programs to ensure effective service delivery Collaborate with nursing management and multidisciplinary treatment teams to develop and revise policies and procedures and ensure staff competencies are current and in compliance with nursing standards Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they are: Licensed and currently registered as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and Bachelor’s degree in nursing; and 2 years of post-licensure nursing experience. One year must have been clinical nursing experience working with individuals, at least 50% of whom have been diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, or substance use disorder; and 1 year must have been professional nurse educator experience conducting nurse education and training. Substitution: A master’s degree in nursing may substitute for 1 year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience A doctorate in nursing may substitute for 2 years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
