They are responsible for providing evidenced-based care for the management of patients, including assessment, implementation and evaluation of a detailed plan of care, which incorporates diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. The APP demonstrates competency in providing age-appropriate care to patients as defined by certification and training and provides family centered care to meet family needs, including psychological support, education and discharge planning in conjunction with other related disciplines. Presenting conditions are triaged and assigned to the appropriate treatment area utilizing the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) tool, which takes into account patient acuity and resources needed for management. Presenting conditions range from mild to life-threatening. Mild to moderate conditions include common pediatric conditions such as: common colds, rashes, strep throat, upper respiratory conditions, lacerations, otitis media, strains and sprains, etc. More complex to life threatening conditions include child abuse/neglect, sexual assault, behavioral emergencies, meningitis, sepsis, burns, acute medical, surgical and trauma conditions, anaphylaxis, respiratory and cardiac arrest. The EMTC can provide emergency stabilization and treatment of adults and arrange for transfer to the appropriate treatment site after medical screening and initial interventions. Medical screening exams and stabilization of any actual or potential life threatening conditions is provided regardless of age, race, sex, gender, color, ethnicity, national origin or ability to pay for services. The EMTC is able to increase resources as needed to meet large influxes of patients (medical alert, trauma state or phased response). Unit Description Emergency Medicine and Trauma Services (EMTC) is a tertiary care, Level 1 trauma center located on the first floor of the Sheikh Zayed Campus on Michigan Ave NW. The EMTC-Sheikh Zayed Campus is comprised of six distinct patient care areas: 36 ED patient rooms Two Code Rooms (4 beds) 4 bed area designed for psychiatric patients 18 decontamination showers with ability to utilize psychiatric area for Decontamination Zone. 6-bed Rapid Treatment Unit (RTU) Patient and Family services are provided under a collaborative, shared leadership model. Organizationally the EMTC reports to the Chief Nursing Officer, Vice President of Nursing and operates within a multidisciplinary leadership team. The Chiefs of the Division of Emergency Medicine provide overall medical leadership. Associate and Assistant Directors report to the Division Chiefs. Registered Nurse (RN) II - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Department 10307 Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Pay Range $33.08 - $60.18 Job Description Summary $25,000 Bonus with a 3-year Commitment Day Shift / Night Shift Rotation Weekend and Holiday Rotation Who We Are The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 46-bed unit. We will be expanding to 60 beds in 2027! This unit serves as a regional referral center and is a designated Level I Trauma Center for comprehensive care to pediatric patients and their families. The PICU Patient Care Management Team coordinates interdisciplinary patient assessment and patient care and provided by pediatric intensivists and specialty nurses in conjunction with multiple specialty services within the Medical Center. Patients are admitted to the PICU from the ED, Trauma Services, the Operating Room, and transfers from in-house units as well as transports from other institutions via the Pediatric Transport team. Trauma patients comprise about 10%-15% of patients in the PICU. These patients often have multiple injuries or severe head trauma. The PICU is also a Pediatric Burn Center and receives referrals from the region. Other complex patients requiring general surgery, ENT, craniofacial, neurosurgical and other surgical subspecialties are also cared for in the PICU. Medical patients comprise 50%-60% of patients and include children with respiratory failure, meningitis or seizures, sepsis, multi-system organ failure and chronically ill children. Children with cancer also require PICU care for complications that develop as part of the underlying disease, chemotherapy or following bone marrow transplantation. Services are provided daily, 24 hours per day. The Division of Critical Care Medicine (CCM) provides services and care to all patients admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Specifically, care is provided for all patients in the PICU, patients within the hospital by request, patients within the hospital as part of all emergencies and resuscitations, and patients in the ED for “medical alerts” and “trauma stats”. The scope of services includes resuscitation, life support, monitoring and treatment for life threatening events and diagnostic issues related to these items.
