A Registered Nurse Outpatient provides clinical patient care as well as clerical and environmental control services, in accordance to established policies and procedures in clinical practice for several assigned specialties. Collaborates with physician/staff to provide coordinated, safe, and compassionate care for patients while ensuring a friendly and efficient process. Responsible for patient scheduling, conducting insurance verifications and providing financial counseling when assigned. Ensures timely communication to management and providers of matters related to patient/complaints flow, follow-up appointments, and referrals. Utilizes information to continuously improve patient care and practice while enhancing outcomes. Duties And Responsibilities Performs general patient care responsibilities including checking schedules and organizing patient flow; recording patient blood pressure, height, and weight; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, collecting specimens, phlebotomy, administering injections, assisting physicians/nurses; preparing patient for examination and treatment; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Organizes medical records, including lab results, progress notes, etc. to ensure the provider has the necessary information available during the patient's encounter. Scans necessary medical information into the chart readying the chart for the patient's encounter. Instructs patient in basic testing requirements, e.g., clean catch urine, EKG, phlebotomy, pap tests, etc. Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include setting up instruments and equipment according to protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits; ordering, sorting, and storing supplies; restocking exam/procedures rooms. Properly disposes of expired medications and supplies. Adheres to and employs appropriate sterile techniques and universal precautions guidelines. Follows guidelines for point-of-care testing, EKG techniques, and phlebotomy, as per manufacturer's requirements for equipment. Reports patient safety issues to the physician and practice manager in a timely manner and recognizes when escalation is needed and involves others in the problem-solving process when additional input is needed. Actively participates in clinic huddles and offers suggestions to better meet the needs of the patients and the clinic flow. Participates actively in quality improvement initiatives and understands the importance of quality improvement. Accesses appropriate systems/services to confirm insurance coverage or other means of payment; Identifies and communicates payroll authorization and referral requirements to patients; Explains insurance benefits and patient liability by using appropriate communication methods/styles. The responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to the following: Locating patients, obtaining accurate vital signs by visual and auditory measures, triaging patients, assessing patients’ medical condition, and preparing patients for physicals and medical treatment by Physicians and Nurses; Understanding and using the electronic medical record system; Ordering lab, x-ray, and medical supplies as directed; Notifying the Nurse and/or Physician when the patient is ready for exam while communicating symptoms and relaying questions about lab or x-ray needs; Assisting Nurses and Physicians with various forms of patient treatment and care; Handling Physician and Nurse requests with respect and in a timely manner; Performing lab duties as assigned; Performing phlebotomy procedures; Sterilizing and setting up instruments; Receiving and storing supplies; restocking treatment rooms as needed; Reporting to the Charge Nurse before leaving at the end of the shift; Following ancillary guidelines as deemed necessary by the Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, DMS, and Physician; Adhering to established policies and procedures; Maintaining cleanliness of the treatment area and completing biological cleanup in accordance with OSHA guidelines and other maintenance assignments as directed; Washing, drying, folding, and restocking laundry; maintaining the cleanliness of the washing machine and dryer lint trap; Attending staff meetings as scheduled by the Nurse Supervisor or DMS; Operating, using, and maintaining medical and office equipment as trained; Completing assigned checklists and Policy Manager tasks within the assigned shift; Being available to assist as needed, as breaks and mealtimes may be interrupted at any time to provide necessary patient care or to maintain center operations; Fostering teamwork and ensuring a positive and professional atmosphere; Providing positive, warm, and friendly service in all interactions; Understanding and performing all duties as assigned. Minimum education and professional requirements include, but are not limited to, the following: Must be 18 years of age or older; Minimum typing experience; High school graduate or equivalent; Minimum of one year of clinical experience in a hospital or physician’s office preferred; Ability to hear pages, bells, and phone system; Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time (possibly 4 to 7 hours at a time); Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; Ability to attend scheduled CPR classes and code drills; Ability to prioritize and multitask; Willingness to work at any center due to a staffing or center emergency or reduction of work. Salary Range: $20.00 - $23.00, depending on experience.
