Available night and overnight shifts range from 4 to 12 hours. Shift lengths, start times, end times and available days vary according to each client’s care plan, personal preferences and scheduling needs. Some overnight assignments may continue into the early morning. Applicants must provide their complete nighttime availability. Once a caregiver accepts a permanent or temporary assignment, they must be able to work the complete scheduled shift consistently. Zero-Tolerance Sleeping Policy All night-shift caregivers must remain fully awake, alert, attentive and prepared to assist the client throughout the entire shift. Sleeping, dozing, lying down to rest or closing your eyes for extended periods is strictly prohibited, even when the client is sleeping. Night-shift caregivers are expected to: Complete all required safety checks. Monitor the client according to the care plan. Respond immediately when the client needs assistance. Complete assigned housekeeping and overnight tasks. Document care activities and observations in real time. Remain aware of the client’s location, condition and safety. Immediately report concerns or changes in condition. Failure to remain awake and attentive may result in immediate removal from the assignment and additional corrective action, up to and including termination.
