Practice Protocols Practice protocols shall identify the area of practice to be performed by the Nurse Practitioner in collaboration with the physician and shall reflect accepted standards of nursing and medical practice. Protocols shall include provisions for case management including diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate recordkeeping by the Nurse Practitioner; and may include such other provisions as are determined by the Nurse Practitioner and collaborating physician to be appropriate. These protocols will be determined by area of specialty. 3. Practice Agreements Practice agreements shall include provisions for the following: a. Patient Assignment Patients are assigned to the Nurse Practitioner or physician according to the needs of the patient. b. Diagnostic Tests Laboratory tests may be ordered according to the initial work-up guidelines found in the reference protocol. Collaboration is not necessary for routine diagnostic procedures. However, consultation and documentation should be completed before more extensive tests are ordered, e.g., nuclear medicine tests, MRI, CT scan, IVP, etc. c. Consultation Nurse Practitioners consult with and refer patients to subspecialty clinics as needed. d. Prescriptive Practice Nurse Practitioners prescribe medications according to the New York State Laws and Regulations for prescription writing and record-keeping (see Appendix). e. The Allergy Medical Assistant is responsible for performing the highest quality of medical, clinical, and clerical tasks in a medical setting. Open to no experience but has an interest in healthcare, teamwork experience, and detail oriented with a flexible schedule. Schedule: Full time, 30+ hours. Medical Assistant - Allergy Promote a professional and welcoming atmosphere that enhances the quality of service and care offered to patients and for the respective provider. Have a thorough working knowledge of all standard operating protocols and policies that pertain to the clinical department, specifically within the allergy practice. Have thorough knowledge of allergy treatments and procedures to appropriately care for the patient’s needs. Proficient in pre-care and post-care treatment instructions for allergy testing and immunotherapy. Fully understand provider to patient flow and anticipate the provider’s next steps. Adapt to the provider's workflows and support the provider to maximize quality patient care and efficiency of the practice, including tasks such as scribing, managing patient records, and assisting with patient communication. Check all allergy testing equipment at the beginning of each shift and maintain all treatment rooms, ensuring they are clean and stocked with necessary supplies. Perform inventory responsibilities and stocking of allergy-related supplies and equipment as requested. Complete all required training and continued education opportunities within the allotted time frame, with a focus on allergy care. Assist the physician in allergy procedures, including skin prick tests, patch tests, spirometry, and immunotherapy injections. Prep exam rooms for all procedures and properly clean exam rooms after every visit. Properly assist the provider in recording prescribed treatments, medications, lab requisitions, biopsies, cultures, photos, prescriptions, prior authorization, obtaining consents, and procedures within established guidelines. Take payments, book follow-up visits, and track inventory used during visits as needed. Learn and adhere to new workflows including Klara paperwork, patient notifications, and patient messaging. Keep the office clean and remove waste. Assist in covering the front desk or greeter role when the office needs. Working knowledge and application of HIPAA & OSHA compliance. May be asked to do additional tasks for office and patient care as needed. Other duties as assigned by supervisor on an as needed basis. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant required; experience in an allergy practice preferred Medical Assistant Certification required CPR and AED Certifications required.
