Job Summary: Under the medical supervision of an Anesthesiologist, administers general and regional anesthesia for all types of surgical, obstetrical and other procedures that require anesthesia services, to patients of various age groups including: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric in accordance with hospital and departmental standards of care. Such intervention may include, but not be limited to: airway management; maintenance of fluid balance; homeostasis; monitoring; response to emergencies related to airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation; and management of patients on ventilators. Essential Responsibilities: Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. Complies with organizational rules, policies and procedures (i.e. TJC, Title 22, Regional and Department requirements). Evaluates patients pre-operatively by interviewing and examining patient. Reviews chart for relevant information. In collaboration with the anesthesiologist selects anesthetic for patient based on pre-operative examination. Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients of each age group served: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Selects anesthetic for patient based on pre-operative examination. Evaluates patients response to pre-medication. Communicates with surgeon and anesthesiologist regarding special concerns of patient. Checks anesthesia equipment daily and between cases to assure safe operating condition. Prepares drugs for administration. Administers anesthesia in accordance with delineated clinical privileges and any conditions or restrictions imposed thereof. Monitors the patient intraoperatively. Evaluates operative and post-operative condition of patient and takes necessary action to maintain stability. Evaluates the patients postoperatively (within 24 hours). Precepts student nurse anesthetists. Maintains an accurate accounting of controlled substances in accordance with departmental guidelines. Maintains equipment and supplies as outlined in department policies and procedures. Complies with organizational rules, policies and procedures (i.e. TJC, CAC Title 22, Regional and Department requirements). Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations when interacting with public, patients, staff and other personnel. May perform other duties within scope of licensure/certification as required.

Document pertinent patient information, assessment and nursing procedures following established protocols. Maintain patient confidentiality. Perform other duties as directed. Patient/Care Procedures: Explain purpose and process of examinations, tests and medical procedures to patients, following established guidelines. Instruct patients on general health and basic self care procedures. Review, explain and clarify physician orders with patient. Instruct patient in use of home equipment. Administer patient first aid. Apply basic orthopedic devices, as ordered by physician. Apply and remove dressings. Execute treatments such as urinary catheterization, bladder irrigations, suction procedures and throat irrigations. Follow standard infection control procedures. Administer enemas. Initiate emergency procedures (including basic CPR) and provide emergency patient treatments Lift patients. Monitor patient vital signs. Monitor patients for bleeding. Observe machine monitors. Administer inhalation therapy. Participate in development of nursing care plans. Perform surgical preps. Prepare and position patients for procedures. Prepare patients for physical examinations. Provide therapeutic care as ordered by physician. Rinse and clean instruments and equipment. Sterilize instruments and equipment. Arrange for equipment repair and maintenance. Maintain clean work area. Monitor supply of oxygen and gas tanks. Complete laboratory, radiology requisitions and specialized test forms. Notify appropriate personnel of abnormal lab test results. Answer member inquires. Observe patient condition for reactions during and after procedures. Remove sutures following established protocols. Respond to Code Blues. Take and record patient vital signs, height, weight, etc. Obtain specimens from patients (urine, stool, etc.). Perform venipuncture and finger sticks to obtain blood samples. Prepare specimens and specimens for lab analysis. Perform urine tests (tablet or dipstick.) Perform vision screening using Snellen chart. Perform routine diagnostic tests, following established protocols. Perform skin tests. Assist as member of surgical team. Assist physicians with endotrachael intubations. Assists physician in obtaining tissue specimens and biopsies. Assist with proctological procedures (i.e. Sigmoidoscopies.) Restrain or support patients during procedures. Perform EKGs (electrocardiograms.) Assist patients with ambulation and exercises, following established protocols Administer topical or aerosol medication as ordered. Administer medications as prescribed, within scope of practice. Transportation: Transport patients to/from designated areas. Route specimens to laboratory. Transport laboratory specimens, medical records, laboratory supplies and materials. Transport office supplies and materials, patient related supplies and materials. Transport equipment, and procedures trays. Administrative/Clerical/Record Keeping: Request charts/medical records. Schedule, cancel and reschedule patient appointments. Initiate follow up appointments with patients. Check in patients/members. Prepare outgoing mail. Locate personnel by paging system or beeper. Provide patient information to family members, following patient confidentiality guidelines. Record and send Faxs. Screen patient calls and take messages for providers. Maintain department logs. Maintain and update user manuals. Monitor and maintain protocol manuals. Respond to requests for information. Order medical supplies and equipment. Receive, store and distribute materials and supplies. Replenish linen. Adjust work schedules and/or reassign personnel as directed. Serve as resource to coworkers by answering procedure questions and assisting in problem solving. Participate in special projects and studies. Demonstrate safety procedures. Coordinate and monitor activities within the module. Function as team leader. Participate in department meetings. Train and orient new staff to equipment, general duties and procedures, following established protocols. Maintain proficiency in clinical skills. Answer call lights. Job Summary The Utilization Management (UM) Admissions Liaison RN II is primarily responsible for receiving/reviewing admission requests and higher level of care (HLOC) transfer requests from inpatient facilities within regular timelines. Reviews clinical data in real-time and post admission to issue a determination based on clinical criteria for medical necessity. Assures timely, accurate determination and notification of admission and inter-facility transfer requests. Generates approval, modification, and denial communications for inpatient admission requests. Actively monitors for appropriate level of care (inpatient vs. observation) admission in the acute setting. Works with UM leadership, including the Utilization Management Medical Director, on requests where determination requires extended review. Collaborates with the inpatient care team for facilitation/coordination of patient transfers between acute care facilities. Acts as a department resource for medical service requests/referral management and processes. Actively participates in the discharge planning process, including providing clinical review and authorization for alternate levels of care, home health, durable medical equipment, and other discharge needs. Provides support to the inpatient review team as necessary to ensure timely processing of concurrent reviews. Duties Provides the primary clinical point of contact for inpatient acute care hospitals requesting Inpatient care/post-stabilization admission requests, Higher level of care transfers and other emergent transfers or needs. Ensures appropriate determination for admission requests/HLOC transfers based on clinical data presented and established criteria/guidelines, escalating to the medical director if needed. Triages and assesses members for admission needs, including, but not limited to, bed and accepting physician availability. (40%) Establishes and maintains ongoing communication with internal stakeholders and external customers while securing the L.A. Care member's admission or inter-facility transfer. Interfaces with physicians, house supervisors, and other hospital delegates to ensure that telephone triage results in appropriate patient placement. (10%) Applies clinical expertise and the nursing process to triage and prioritize admission acuity, servicing as an expert clinical resource for patient placement while utilizing medical knowledge and experience to facilitate consensus-building and development of satisfactory outcomes (10%) Continually seeks new ways to improve processes and increase efficiencies. Takes the initiative to communicate recommendations to UM Leadership. (5%) Completes all inpatient and discharge planning requests appropriately and timely including, but not limited to: Skilled nursing facility, outpatient needs (home health, physical therapy, infusion), and case management referrals (5%) Performs prospective, concurrent, post-service, and retrospective claim medical review processes. Responsibilities The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice. The Registered Nurse also directs and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of care in the ICU. The Registered Nurse is directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her assigned patients. They communicate with the physician about changes in the patient’s clinical condition including hemodynamic monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and abnormal results and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition and/or response to treatment. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality. Qualifications EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING 1. Current and valid state RN License.2. Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.3. Completion of Critical Care Course preferred. 4. Basic Arrythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire.5. Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current. 6. Minimum of one year as a staff RN in acute care hospital, critical care preferred.7. Critical Care RN (CCRN) Certification preferred. 8. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
