Job Description We are in search of a Registered Nurse for the PICU at Main Campus for DAYSHIFT . Someone who excels in fast-paced learning with dynamic flexibility in a critical care setting. This position encompasses direct nursing care to critically ill patients, while ensuring safety and comfort, within our family centered care model. Our PICU is divided into 4 cohorts for better patient outcomes. The 4 cohorts are: 9 LT: Surgical and Neuro-surgical ICU that encompasses post liver & kidney transplants, trauma patients, seizure disorder patients, and post-operative patients 10 LT: MICU focusing on pulmonary/pulmonary hypertension patients, bone marrow transplant/hematology/oncology patients 11 LT: MICU that encompasses a mix of medical-surgical patients. 12 LT: Transitional ICU is a unique cohort that focuses on our chronic, technology dependent patients who need intense education with the patient and family before discharging home. Summary The Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children's Cancer and Hematology Clinic located in McAllen, TX is recruiting a full-time Instructor- Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA). The clinic was created in 2001 through a joint effort of the Vannie Cook Foundation, Baylor College of Medicine, and Texas Children's Hospital to provide local pediatric Hematology /Oncology care to the under-served children of the Rio Grande Valley. The clinic is an extension of the Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center and is the region's first and only pediatric cancer and hematology treatment facility. Providing outpatient and inpatient care for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology patients at the Vannie Cook Clinic and several surrounding community hospitals. This position is considered 100% clinical. Outpatient duties include a full patient schedule, oversight of infusion room services, and managing calls from clinic staff, physicians, and families throughout the day. Inpatient care/on-call duties are covered as a member of a 4-team rotation. The inpatient/on-call rotation is 7 days and includes evening/weekend/holiday work. Inpatient care consists of daily rounds and work of the day, phone calls from hospital staff in the evening and coming in at night for acute needs as deemed necessary. In addition, the provider manages phone calls from parents via page operator on evening/ weekends/holidays. The provider will be credentialed at multiple local hospitals and will be traveling between hospitals as needed. Performing procedures (bone marrow, lumbar puncture) on patients as indicated in both the outpatient and inpatient setting. Completing orders, documentation and billing in a timely manner. Maintaining and completing all necessary regulatory requirements to remain compliant with COG and institutional research studies. Job Description We are searching for a Registered Nurse for our Surgical/Ortho/Trauma unit – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. 11WT is a 36 bed surgical/orthopedic/trauma unit. The unit consists of 32 general admission beds and 4 designated trauma beds. 11WT receives a wide array of surgical patients from a variety of surgical services. General Surgery: appendectomies, hernia repairs, pectus repairs, tumor resections Orthopedic Surgery: spinal fusions, bone fractures, osteotomies Urology Surgery: ureteral re-implants, nephrectomies, bladder augmentations Plastic Surgery: cleft lip and/or palate repairs, rhinoplasties, brachial plexus repairs ENT Surgery: Tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, PE Tube placement, cochlear implants The 4 trauma beds are used for patients who have sustained a multisystem or severe injury from some sort of trauma. You may also see minor trauma patients throughout the unit. Some of the types of trauma that we see are motor vehicle accidents, auto-pedestrian accidents, ATV accidents, gunshot wounds, sports injuries, and child abuse. The nurses who care for these patients in the trauma rooms have received additional training on how to care and manage these types of patients. The trauma nurse is an expanded role that is offered on 11WT. The Clinical Nurse in the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) at MD Anderson Cancer Center manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care. They impact quality of patient care, patient outcomes and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, a TX RN license, and at least one year of recent RN experience in a hospital ER/ED setting. Demonstrates ability to recognize and Institute arrhythmia protocol for the following Cardiac rhythms V-tach, V-fib, PVC’s, asystole, 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree heart block, atrial fibrillation, and atrial flutter. Directs, supervises, and evaluates nursing care provided to patients. Administers medications utilizing the seven “rights” of medication administration: right patient, route, time, medication, dose, reason and documentation. Assist physicians with special tests and procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, arterial line and bronchoscopy. Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner. Participates in orientation of new personnel and performance evaluations of nursing staff. Assists team members in giving care to patients or administers direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed. Coordinates nursing care of patients when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments. Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, or sepsis. Is knowledgeable about the emotional and rehabilitative aspects of care and is capable of applying appropriate therapeutic interventions. Provides assessment utilizing current ACLS certification and protocols renders lifesaving first aid and makes appropriate referral to the nearest organization that is capable of providing needed services. Demonstrates ability to manage various types of tubes and other devices such as Foley /straight catheter, feeding tubes, chest tubes, JP drains, Hemovacs. T-tubes, wound drains, ostomy care, suprapubic catheter, continuous bladder irrigation. Demonstrates correct set up and performance monitoring of hemodynamic systems such as Swan-ganz catheter, arterial catheter, and cardiac output. Demonstrates accurate knowledge of critical Lab values and their normal ranges. Reports and documents appropriately. Demonstrates ability to verify correct lead telemetry placement. Validates telemetry strips every 4 hours and PRN. Documents appropriately. Participates in assessing and meeting patient and family education needs. Provides complete patient report to oncoming RN, ensures documentation is complete, physician orders are signed off, and patient rooms are in order. Communicates pertinent information to RN, physician, and patients as needed. Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean and wears appropriate identification while on duty.
