Your Role on the Team The position of Nurse Practitioner 2 in the Department of Surgery, requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in the management and coordination of all inpatient care for the various division of department of surgery, including Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Service. Duties include and not limited to assessing health needs, planning and evaluating care of all patients on the general surgery services as well as patients in the surgical intensive care unit. The nurse practitioner will participate with inpatient sign out at beginning and end of shift. Follows up with the General Surgery teams/residents/attending physicians. Will be involved in trauma resuscitations and performing surgical consultations on potential general surgery patients. Responsibility for care and organization of procedures (including scheduling operations, interventional procedures, etc) and follow-up, obtain consults as needed, and discharge patients (including discharge summary, instructions, and medications) when appropriate. Triage phone calls. Responsible for the reviewing critical labs, follow-up of results with patient and medical staff, obtaining comprehensive medical histories, performing initial and periodic physical examinations/assessments, and exploring patient’s interpretation of health needs. Incumbent will identify and treat patients and manage treatment of hospitalized patients. The NP demonstrates an advanced level of medical knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. Job Summary The Emergency Services (ES) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing the functions of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of patients with perceived, actual or potential, sudden or urgent, physical or psychosocial problems that are primarily episodic or acute and that occur in a variety of settings. These may require minimal care of life support measures, patient and significant other education, appropriate referral, and knowledge of legal implications. Emergency patients may be neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult or geriatric with diagnosed, undiagnosed or misdiagnosed problems of varying complexity. Job Requirements Minimum Education Requirement: Attend at least 4 hours of BRN-approved pediatric education within 6 months of hire date and every year thereafter. May attend a Two-day approved EDAP/ENPC course every 4 years (QVH Only). Minimum Experience Requirement: All (1) newly graduated nurses, (2) re-entry nurses, and (3) nurses new to the U.S. healthcare system must satisfactorily complete the Emanate Health R.N. New Grad Program. One (1) year clinical experience is preferred. Emergency or Critical Care nursing experience preferred. For those with no prior emergency room experience, the Basic ER Nursing Course is to be completed within 6 months of hire. Excellent customer service skills required. Minimum License Requirement: Current RN license in the State of California. BLS certification required. ACLS and PALS Certification required within 3 months of hire. Assaultive Behavior Training Certification that meets AB508 and SB1299 required within 30 days of hire/transfer. New hires that have completed Assaultive Behavior training outside of Emanate Health will be required to complete Emanate Health Work Place Violence online awareness module within 30 days of hire/transfer. CEN preferred. National Institutes of Health (NIH) Stroke Scale Certification "A" required within 3 months of hire/transfer. Annual 8 hours of Stroke Education required for those working at QVH. The Supervisor manages operations and services that add value and are integrated with nursing standards of practice, service priorities. Lastly, the Supervisor is responsible for performance and outcome measures, as well as strategic, business, and organizational goals/objectives. Minimum Requirements A bachelor’s degree in nursing, coupled with a minimum of 1 year of leadership experience, is required. Master’s degree in health services, business administration, or management preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience providing patient care in an outpatient/inpatient setting, with preferred experience in staff supervision A current, valid license as a registered nurse through the California Board of Registered Nursing is required. Experience with audits and health care inspections, preferred. Prior experience with an Electronic Health/Medical (EHR/EMR) system is preferred. A minimum requirement of a valid BLS certification or higher, following the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross guidelines. Bilingual English/Spanish/Chinese, preferred, depending upon the site.
