The Medical Assistant (MA) 2 will perform multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The MA shall assist patients’ healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The MA provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic. The MA shall adhere to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The MA provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision, and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. Performs routine laboratory tests. Perform vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document in patient’s medical record. Observes and reports patient’s signs or symptoms changes. Administers medication safely as directed by the physician. Assists in patient care activities such as walking. Escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations. Cleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique. Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work. Provides patient with provider’s care instructions and information. Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties. Description: The Surgical APP provides patient care in collaboration with specific surgeons face-to-face or via telehealth on communication devices such as phone or computer. Conducts surgical history/physical exams, orders and interprets diagnostic/lab tests and develops plan of care. Writes prescriptions, controlled substances per Delineation of Privileges. First assists in surgery. Performs surgical procedures in the operating room under the direct supervision of the surgeon. Performs procedures in the clinic under direct or indirect supervision. The APP has synergistic relationship with the surgeon and highly technical skills increases patient safety and positive surgical outcomes. Enables the continuity of care by managing patients in the pre, intra and post operative settings. Performs inpatient rounding, consultations, wound care and bedside procedures. In the outpatient setting, manages clinics, clinic procedures, facilitates family and patient education, and participates in grand rounds. Works directly with staff, administration, patients and families to ensure quality care across the continuum as an expert in surgical practice areas. Performs on-call coverage requiring high-level decision making on weekdays, weeknights, and weekends inclusive of surgery. The e stimated salary range for this position is $126148.63 - $163993.22 / year depending on experience. Qualifications: Qualified Surgical APRNs will require: Masters Degree, Valid Florida APRN License, Nurse Practitioner National certification, DEA License, BLS Certification, RNFA Registered Nurse First Assist Certification, 3 years of relevant nursing experience required. Must be compliant with state of Florida requirements for CEUs and licensure. Must obtain medical staff credentialing and privileges as needed for practice location. If APRN requires hospital inpatient medical staff privileges and does not have an acute care certification, refer to BHSF Policy 701 titled Educational and training requirements to be credentialed to work in an acute care setting for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse . Qualified Surgical PAs will require: Masters Degree, Valid Florida PA License, NCCPA Certification, DEA License, BLS Certification. Must be compliant with state of Florida requirements for CMEs and licensure. Must obtain medical staff credentialing and privileges as needed for practice location. No experience required.
