What you'll do The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs various resident care activities and services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of residents. Transfers, moves and repositions clients every 2-3 hours and prn. Maintains CNA II Requirement (if appropriate). Assists residents to move to activities area or dining room area, etc. Keeps unit neat, relaxed and homelike. Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges. Assists/provides residents with PROM and AROM, and ambulation goals as appropriate. Provides treatments as ordered on assigned residents. Operates all equipment and performs all procedures/care in a safe manner. Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions. Cleans and stocks supplies, and equipment as directed. Receives and directs phone calls promptly and accurately following Hospital etiquette guidelines. Demonstrates ability to accept constructive criticism and uses it to improve work performance. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide non–direct patient care/support services to staff under the direction of licensed personnel. Maintains NYS CNA requirements. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Integrate the philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Home and the Nursing Department into the management of nursing care. Initiates plan of care: Assign resident care in accordance with resident need and to the abilities of the staff members assigned to the unit. Observes the residents physiological and psychological behavior and notifies the NCC of any concerns and documents observations in the resident’s medical records. Provide for continuity of care for all residents on assigned unit and cooperate in providing for continuity of care for all three (3) shifts. Ensure each resident is treated with dignity and respect and report any concerns with resident care and treatment to Administration in accordance with facility policy. Must follow the established infection control procedures. Participate in In-service education programs and in continuing education programs designed to keep abreast of changes in the nursing profession, keep LPN license current and provide a copy for personnel file. Maintain nursing supplies inventory checking stock to determine inventory and PAR level; anticipating needs supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies; using equipment to accomplish job. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, mandatory in-services; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. The nurse participates in the advancement of the profession through contributions to practice, education, administration, and knowledge development. Engage in quality improvement initiatives including continuing education, participation in hospital-wide and unit specific teams, identifying nursing practice areas for quality improvement and safe outcomes.
