Responsibilities A. Clinical/Technical/Service Participates in the application of the nursing process to an assigned group of patients. Demonstrates those behaviors which reflect the scientific knowledge, judgment, and technical skills of a Licensed Practical Nurse Performs job duties under supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse. Demonstrates a competent level of approved skilled nursing care tasks and procedures using approved technical skills related to vital signs, pulse oximetry, venipuncture, starting standard peripheral IVs only (not midlines or long peripheral lines), urinary catheter insertion/catheter care; and simple dressings, remove/discontinue a peripheral line. Administer IV fluids, provided completion of annual competency IV therapy training. Monitors patients receiving blood and blood products and TPN under the direction of the RN, who administers the transfusion. Makes recommendations in the application of the nursing process. Participates in planning, and administers direct patient care, including activities of daily living (ADL). Performs point of care testing including blood glucose. REPORTS TO: Charge Nurse, Supervisor and Director of Nursing Services (DNS) Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to write legibly. Physically able to perform the required duties of a Certified Nursing Assistant. Experience as a Nursing Assistant in an acute care or long-term care setting. RESPONSIBILITIES: Residents Provides or assists with bed bath, tub bath, whirlpool and showers. (Supervises safety of same.) Adheres to the proper procedure for cleaning thermometers/IVAC. Rehabilitation Assists in ambulation, transfers, ROM exercises and good body alignment where indicated. Uses adaptive devices properly. Cooperates with all rehab disciplines. Keeps accountability sheets up to date with signatures as required. Testing of Urine and Collecting of Specimens Has knowledge of proper procedure. Records results. Informs nurse of results. Assignments Receives daily report from nurse. Consults assignment for special duties and sets proper priorities for following through on assignment. Is familiar with and takes proper action in meeting physical needs of resident. Routinely checks and keeps in order all residents' belongings: i.e. clothing, glasses, hearing aid, prosthesis aid, adaptive devices, etc. Ensures that residents on turning schedule is positioned every two hours or as ordered, and documented.
