Job Description Harborview Medical Center Inpatient Acute Care Float APP (ARNP; Nurse Practitioner; or PA-C, Physician Assistant) This opening is for 100% FTE, Days; (and with weekend and holiday coverage, and with the potential for some night shifts). The Inpatient Acute Care Float APP team is composed of licensed physician assistants and nurse practitioners who are skilled and trained to work across multiple services at Harborview (currently including General Surgery, Medicine Polytrauma Service, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, & Burns). Float APPs possess the ability to adapt quickly to different clinical environments and provide comprehensive care. They play a critical role, filling in when there are staffing shortages, leaves and fluctuating demands. Work is performed 7 days a week with general independence and decision-making responsibility under the general guidance of the attending physicians or fellows, lead APP and APP assistant director. Guidelines include general policy procedures and practice guidelines established by the department and Harborview Medical Center, as well as appropriate professional and technical manuals. Roles & Responsibilities Practice high quality evidence-based medicine within the scope of a licensed APP in the inpatient acute care setting including: Rotating among inpatient services including but not limited to General Surgery, Medicine Polytrauma Service, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, & Burns Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and physical examinations Diagnose and manage acute & chronic medical conditions Develop and implement individualized treatment plans Monitor and evaluate patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary Perform procedures within one’s scope and training as appropriate Order and interpret diagnostic tests Prescribe and manage medications Coordinate patient care with multidisciplinary teams, fostering a cooperative atmosphere that promotes effective communication and teamwork Provide patient and family education Engage in patient discharge planning and follow-up care coordination Document patient care and maintain accurate medical records Participate in quality improvement initiatives and safety protocols Complete learning modules and participate in continuing education Provide mentorship and guidance as appropriate to other staff and students Requirements Nurse Practitioner: Masters or Doctorate Degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing AND Washington State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License with prescriptive privileges AND National certification as an ACNP (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner); (FNPs/Family Nurse Practitioners with at least 3 years of APP/provider level experience in acute care will also be considered). Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month services periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The Center for Pain Relief utilizes a collaborative approach between physicians (primarily from anesthesiology, but may also be from family/internal medicine, neurology, PM&R, and psychiatry), pain psychologists, advanced practice providers (APPs), and clinical pharmacists. The successful candidate will see patients independently, though each patient is also assigned an attending physician for periodic review. Duties include the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with complex chronic pain problems, including relevant medical and psychological conditions. Other specific pain-related duties may include but are not limited to prescription and oversight of chronic opioid therapy and care coordination. There may be some involvement in oversight of specific pain treatments such as lidocaine infusions or capsaicin patch application and post-procedure follow up after outpatient pain interventions. Address EPIC inbox results, questions, refills, etc. in a timely manner Participates in the conduct of cancer clinical research, including patient, caregiver, and peer education Follow plan of care as outlined by the attending physician – i.e., ensure staging studies (imaging, labs, etc.) are ordered at the appropriate interval; ensure appropriate physician and/or APP follow up is arranged at agreed upon intervals. Precept learners of all disciplines (Fellows, PA, NP, etc) Participates in patient rounds, conferences and committees Active member of the Rapid Response team Qualifications Required: Strong team player with a can-do attitude is a must. The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team is essential. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program required. Washington state & DEA licensure required ACLS required within 3 months of start date Strong oral and written communication skills required. EMR experience required; prefer experience with EPIC Preferred: 1 year of ARNP or PA-C experience in Medical Oncology strongly preferred The annual base salary range for this position is from $126,984 to $200,678, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
