Description Part time 7am-7:30pm with rotating weekends 3S – Observation Unit 3 South is a 16-bed observation unit. This is a fast-paced unit/environment with patients that will be considered observation status. Patients will have a wide variety of different diagnoses/illnesses. Nurses on this unit must be able to assess and coordinate patients discharge planning with many different disciplines. The RN on this unit will need to understand that there will be rapid evaluations of patients to determine safe discharge or possible movement to an inpatient unit. The Staff Nurse Inpatient reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who prescribes, delegates and coordinates nursing care to the acutely ill patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. Effectively interacts with patient, significant others, and other health team members, while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice. Responsibilities: Collects and analyzes data, identifies expected outcomes, develops and implements an individualized plan, coordinates care delivery and evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes. Directs care and determines the appropriate utilization of any assistant involved in providing direct patient care. Collaborates with patient, family, physicians and ancillary staff. Creates a documented plan, focused on outcomes and decisions related to the care and delivery of services that indicates communications with patients, families, and others. Participates in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects. Evaluates and documents the patient’s responses to nursing interventions in the health record and properly individualizes the plan of care based on the evaluation of findings. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity . You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. At UChicago Medicine, we bring the world’s most innovative approaches to patients with all conditions, from common to complex. This department is a 16-bed, fully telemetry-capable unit that is functional 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This department treats a wide variety of high acuity adult inpatient populations (at or above 18 years of age) with various types of medical conditions alongside a multidisciplinary team. You will have the ability to work with physicians who are constantly pushing the boundaries of possibility, conducting groundbreaking research, and providing lifesaving, personalized patient care. A staff nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient-centered care that is outcome-directed. Patient-centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision. Essential Job Functions: Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs. Develops a plan of care for those patients whose needs do not require the expertise of a Case Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
