Responsibilities The Perioperative RN is responsible for managing the care of the pediatric and adult patient requiring a surgical procedure. The Perioperative RN is a professional nurse who is directly or indirectly responsible for delivering total nursing care to the perioperative patient during various phases of the perioperative stay. The Perioperative RN participates in the clinical assessment, planning for care, implantation of appropriate nursing techniques and evaluation of nursing interventions. Responsibilities The Registered Nurse is one who plans, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates nursing care for patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised during operative or other invasive procedures. Although the RN works collaboratively with other perioperative professionals (e.g.: Surgeons, anesthesia professional, surgical technologists) to meet patient needs, the RN is accountable for the patient outcomes resulting from the nursing care provided during the operative or other invasive procedure. REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse, or Graduate Nurse, Board Eligible. American Heart Association BLS required. Completion of Advance Cardiac Life Support within six months of hire. REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: Interpersonal and critical thinking skills required. Excellent communication and team work skills. Basic clinical, computer & typing skills.
