Job Requirements The estimated start date targeted for this position will be in September 2026 This is a night shift position General Summary This role is considered for the new graduate or nurse with less than 12 months experience . The nurse will utilize this time to learn the institution and nursing practice. . It is expected that a nurse in this role successfully meets all requirements of the Nurse Residency Program and Departmental Orientation. Utilizes the institution’s care delivery and professional practice models as the frame of reference for practicing as a professional nurse. Participates in activities to develop own practice, and to support group practice goals at the unit level. Clinical Practice/Care Delivery Focus of clinical practice/care delivery and on own learning. Uses/applies evidence-based practice, accesses appropriate resources. Follows unit based protocols, documentation, pathways, etc Involves patient and family in care; follows model of care delivery guidelines. Conducts patient/family needs assessment; initiates and documents patient/family education, seeks guidance in advocating the patient/family needs when appropriate. Delivers care consistent with unit operations to ensure safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient centered care. Professional Development Responsible for accessing education applicable to own professional development; focus on completion of competencies appropriate for patient care setting. Successful completion of orientation. Accountable for achieving/maintaining requirements for unit practice. Assists with precepting students, unlicensed assistive personnel or peer for isolated days (not accountable for entire orientation); may assist with share days or shadow days. Completes CE’s on an annual basis based on the facility minimum requirements. Service/Quality Becomes familiar with National Hospital Quality Measures, National Patient Safety Goals, Quality Indicators, Nursing Sensitive Indicators, and Facility Annual Operating Plan. Aware of patient and team member satisfaction scores and contributes to unit initiatives for improvement. Participates in some or all elements of research/EBP/QI. Provides high quality, safe, patient centered care with focus on exceeding service expectations. Maintains regulatory requirements for overall readiness; participates in tracer activities when requested. Patient Safety Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority. Implements policies, procedures, and guidelines consistently in the performance of assigned duties. Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members. Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge. Participates in hospital, departmental and/or unit patient safety initiatives. Operations Supports Charge Nurse role and demonstrates basic understanding of the role. Actively contributes to teamwork (cooperates with peers, flexible with assignments, takes admissions as required, etc). Attends briefings/staff meetings regularly. Aware of and supports unit, nursing division, and organizational governance structure. Participates in recruitment and retention activities at the unit level. Provides feedback in peer review as requested. Work Experience Work Experience Qualifications Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required. Over 1 /2 years of experience licensed in the state without a preceptor. Current AHA BLS certification required. Basic computer skills are required. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Participates in the implementation and evaluation of patient care. Responsible for reporting and documenting all new or unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the supervisor. Promotes and assists in the maintenance of a sage and clean work environment. DUTIES / ACTIVITIES : CUSTOMER SERVICE: Responsible for driving the FMCNA culture through values and customer service standards. Accountable for outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers. Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication. Takes initiative and action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Patient Related: Provide direct patient care for assigned patient(s). Perform all technical aspects of dialysis procedures for assigned patients as prescribed. Administer and monitor treatments in accordance with current treatment plan or as directed by the supervisor. Monitor and document dialysis treatment parameters on dialysis flow sheets. Document other information related to the care of the patient in the individual patient record. Responsible for reporting any significant information, change in patient condition, or equipment problems to the supervisor. Assist in developing and following the teaching plan to educate the patient and family regarding end stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet and medications. Assist with all emergency operational procedures. Administer intravenous medication in accordance with physician orders and state nurse practice laws. Perform and document pre, interim, and post treatment review of patient condition. Initiate basic CPR measures in the event of cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest, and respond to emergency situations related to dialysis treatment. Technical: Safely operate all dialysis related equipment according to the proper procedures. Provide minor troubleshooting when necessary. Ensure a clean, safe and sanitary environment in the dialysis facility treatment area. Ensure all blood spills are immediately addressed according to FMCNA Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies. Operate all emergency equipment effectively in accordance to the standard operation procedures. Staff Related: Participate in staff meetings as scheduled. Assist in short term and long term patient care plan meetings. Acquire information and knowledge in current practice related to dialysis principals and technique by participating in scheduled in-service classes. Act as a resource person for other staff members. Assist with the coordination of the care plan with Physician, Dietitian and Social Worker. Other duties as assigned. This position requires frequent, prolonged periods of standing and the employee must be able to bend over. The employee may occasionally be required to move, with assistance, machines and equipment weighing up to 200lbs., and may lift chemical water solutions of up to 30lbs., up as high as 5 feet. The position requires travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community. Travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings may be required. The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noises levels. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials. EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN, LVN) Current appropriate State licensure. EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS: One year medical-surgical nursing experience preferred. Hemodialysis experience preferred but not required. ICU experience preferred but not required. Successfully complete a training course in the theory and practice of hemodialysis. Successfully complete CPR Certification. Must complete the Nurses Technical Training Program upon hire or soon thereafter. Ability to provide coverage at area facilities during times of short-staffing or as required. Incorporates information obtained from nursing care planning conferences into written nursing plan of care. • Coordinates patient, family, significant other, and health team members in the planning of hospital and post-discharge care. C. Implementation. 1. Performs clinical nursing skills independently. 2. Administers medications, IV therapy and treatments appropriately and accurately. 3. Initiates appropriate emergency procedures as necessary. 4. Appropriately delegates and coordinates the duties of ancillary personnel. 5. Communicates the patient's status and plan of care through written documentation in the patient's medical record. 6. BSN preferred. Currently licensed as an RN in the state of Maryland. Successful completion of a refresher course within past 6 months if nursing practice has not occurred within the past 5 years. Three (3) years of direct patient care experience as a licensed RN required. Current BLS certification or obtained prior to providing direct patient care is required. Skills IV. HS diploma/equivalent Current enrollment in LPN to BSN Bridge Program Two years Nursing Rehab and/or Skilled Nursing experience Long Term Acute Care Hospital experience (LTACH) NRP (Nurse Residency Program) is preferred within 1 year of employment Required License/Certifications: Adherence to credentialing requirements of Luminis Health as stated in the nursing bylaws.
