Position Summary The Vascular Access Registered Nurse provides expert peripheral intravenous (PIV), PICC line placements and other vascular access related tasks. This includes developing (as needed) and maintaining clinical expertise in the placement of PICC lines, teaching and mentoring RN's on the floors about basic IV care such as the use of safety catheters, being a clinical expert resource for the organization in vascular access issues and working closely with the staff to improve organizational access, flow and customer experience and assisting in the development of this new program. * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. * Current MN nursing license. * BLS certification. * Current 2-3 years of pediatric nursing experience. * Current 2 years expertise in vascular access with children. * Competent in assessment and treatment of VAD sites for all complications. * Proficiency in ultrasound guided PIV placement, 1 year experience required. * Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) placement experience in children required * VA-BC certification preferred. * An informational meeting with the Patient Care Manager is required prior to awarding the position. Department Overview The pediatric emergency department at Children’s Minnesota St. Paul hospital is a 32-bed, Level IV trauma center that specializes in the assessment and stabilization of acute pediatric illness, injury and trauma. Our multidisciplinary care team of more than 150 pediatric professionals cares for over 45,000 patients a year, and can treat just about anything. The St. Paul emergency department offers 24-hour access and has some of the shortest wait times in the country. The Children’s St. Paul NICU is a 62-bed unit providing level 2 and level 3 neonatal care, which allows for continuity of care from admission to discharge.
