Responsibilities* Personnel Management Provides supervision, counsel, performance management, and completes performance evaluation for nursing with feedback from the senior nursing director, medical faculty, peer groups, and ACU triad. Creates job postings, recruits, interviews and selects nurses. Works collaboratively with triad leadership team in the hiring process. Manages the process for staffing/scheduling and vacation time of nursing staff. Manages the orientation and competency evaluation of new hires. Connects individually with each employee, increasing employee engagement scores and satisfaction. Clinical Practice Serves as a role model, mentor and expert resource to nursing and assistive staff in the provision of direct patient care. Provides leadership for the development, implementation and evaluation of standards of nursing practice and interdisciplinary clinical guidelines. Facilitates and support a nursing practice environment in which empowerment, responsibility, autonomy, accountability, collaboration and peer review are exercised. Develops standard process and protocols to minimize variation, support efficient workflows, and confirm the right work is performed by the right role. Support of Clinical Operations Participates in planning and problem-solving of daily unit operations and priorities of patient services. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of unit goals and objectives. Manages, directly and in collaboration with others, staffing, scheduling, benchmarking, work redesign and variances. Organizes and facilitates unit based educational activities and in-services. Assures compliance with regulatory programs' standards related to the nursing. Provides leadership, assists and advises Administrators, Medical Directors, in satisfying other regulatory standards. Interprets and implements University and Health System policies and procedures. Assists in the planning and implementation of new or expanded services and programs. Provides interface and liaison communications regarding programs external to the unit which have implications for nursing staff. Represents nursing, Ambulatory Care Services and/or the clinical department(s) or unit(s) on assigned committees Quality Management and Research Participates in and conducts the analysis of data, assists in the development of strategies to improve care management within the area or unit. Participates in and supports the involvement of nursing staff in patient (HEDIS, paid for performance) and ACU quality improvement metrics/activities. Provides leadership to staff in understanding and applying quality improvement principles and adoption of evidence-based changes in practice into daily work. Promotes the integration of research findings into clinical practice. Supports research activities on the unit, as indicated. Works closely with each team to define and measure productivity, holding teams accountable to expectations, and ensuring work performed is within their scope of practice. Professional Development and Education Facilitates the education of health sciences students. Develops self professionally through continuing education, professional reading, participation in professional organizations and networking. Evaluates own performance periodically with the Senior Nursing Director. Required Qualifications* Applicant Must Meet One Of The Following Bachelors of Science in Nursing OR Associates degree or diploma in Nursing and a Masters degree in Nursing. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan. Minimum of five (5) years RN experience Minimum of two (2) years of recent (within the last 5 years) of reasonable progressively responsible clinical experience in an adult specialties service line. Minimum of one (1) year ambulatory experience in the last 5 years strongly desired. Demonstrated leadership skills including creative and effective problem-solving, ability to effectively collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, and ability to direct nursing practice and apply critical thinking skills/judgment to a variety of situations. Nurse Leadership certification or completion of a nursing leadership certification within two (2) years of accepting this position. Certification is expected to be maintained while in this leadership role. Examples include Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) or, Nurse Executive (NE-BC). Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is a 12-story hospital that will house 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care; a state-of-the-art neurosciences center. High-level, specialty care services for cardiovascular and thoracic patients will also be housed, along with advanced imaging. The 690,000 square foot hospital which also features twenty surgical and three interventional radiology suites is being constructed adjacent to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, with plans for bridge and tunnel connections to existing inpatient care facilities. Responsibilities* The Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) is a 24 bed ICU that cares for patients from neurosurgery, neurology, stroke, otolaryngology, and oral maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) services. Medical problems most often treated on this unit include: thrombectomies, post-operative craniotomies for brain tumors, cerebral aneurysms, intracranial hemorrhage/hematomas, severe head and/or spinal cord injuries, increased intracranial pressure, caring for and assessing free flaps, doppler usage, tracheostomy care/management, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), Myasthenia Gravis, Status Epilepticus, and Guillain-Barre syndrome. Job Summary The University of Michigan Congenital Heart Center is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Cardiac Procedures Nurse for the Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs. This position is located at CS Mott Children's Hospital. Diagnostic as well as interventional cardiac procedures are performed in the labs and include, but are not limited to, balloon angioplasty, transcatheter valve placements, stenting, biopsies, PICC line placements, hybrid procedures, and electrophysiology studies. Responsibilities* Primary job responsibilities consist of the diverse roles of patient prep, monitoring, circulating (catheter and equipment retrieval) and hemodynamic recording during catheterization procedures on a diverse patient population with known or suspected congenital or acquired cardiac disease. Patient population includes fetuses, infants, children, and adults. Other Job Responsibilities May Include Performing conscious sedation as needed following university policies and procedures. Performing various lab testing including ACTs, ABGs and oxygen saturations during procedures. Performing necessary QC/QA on equipment. Obtaining medications from the Pyxis. Serving as an educational resource for the cardiac catheterization laboratories, including participation in orientation and education of other team members regarding inventory, best practices, infection control, and other areas as needed. Assisting with research protocols as needed. Required Qualifications* Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan. Minimum one (1) year recent (within last 18 months) Cardiac Catheterization/Electrophysiology Laboratory nursing experience to include circulating or Minimum three (3) years critical care Congenital Heart nursing experience to include familiarity with sterile technique and bedside procedures Certification in BLS required.
