Provides acute dialysis nursing care in accordance with physician orders, established protocols, and standards of practice, using sound clinical judgment and safe nursing techniques. Initiates, monitors, and discontinues dialysis treatments while observing for patient tolerance, treatment effectiveness, and potential complications, and escalates concerns promptly to the appropriate provider. Maintains accurate, timely, and complete documentation of assessments, treatments, interventions, patient response, and communication with the care team. Collaborates with nephrologists, hospitalists, bedside staff, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care, support treatment goals, and promote continuity of care. Assists with patient and family education related to dialysis treatment, plan of care, safety precautions, and follow-up needs appropriate to the patient’s condition. Supports a safe care environment through adherence to infection prevention practices, equipment safety standards, departmental procedures, and regulatory requirements. The hospital area serves high-risk outpatients, inpatient, and ED patients. Every nurse here trains and works in the 3 nursing roles: admitting nurse, circulating nurse (in the procedure room) and recovery/discharge nurse. We perform 50-60 procedures a day. Our shifts are 8 hours during the weekdays. Full time and Part time nurses also take some afterhours call usually consisting of 4 weeknights and one weekend in a 10-week period.
