Position Details: We are a specialty procedural area for GI and Pulmonology procedures. We have 5 gastroenterologist and 4 pulmonologists. Our staff covers 2 procedural areas: the outpatient only- area in our physician’s plaza building and the hospital procedural area in the main hospital. Both locations have a pre/post unit. The hospital area serves high-risk outpatients, inpatient, and ED patients. Every nurse here trains and works in the 3 nursing roles: admitting nurse, circulating nurse (in the procedure room) and recovery/discharge nurse. We perform 50-60 procedures a day. Our shifts are 8 hours during the weekdays. Full time and Part time nurses also take some afterhours call usually consisting of 4 weeknights and one weekend in a 10-week period. Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Knowledge of the principles and skills needed for nursing, care, examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of medications and their effects, patient education, principles to develop a self-care program, instruments and common safety practices. Licensure: Current valid state license. Certifications: CPR certification or obtain within 90 days of employment. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Skill in assisting and performing a variety of medical treatments and procedures. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Must be able to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and policies. Must be able to communicate clearly and establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public. Basic computer terminal and keyboard skills, or the ability to learn these skills, in order to access information and enter clinical data. Essential Position Responsibilities Perform comprehensive nursing assessments for cardiac catheterization, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and related cardiovascular procedures, including review of history, medications, allergies, laboratory results, procedural risk factors, and readiness for sedation or intervention. Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care across the pre-procedure, intraprocedural, and post-procedure phases, including patient preparation, vascular access site assessment, medication administration, procedural monitoring, recovery care, and discharge readiness. Monitor hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythm, vital signs, level of consciousness, oxygenation, pain, and overall patient response during and after procedures; promptly identify changes in condition and communicate concerns to the procedural physician or appropriate provider. Assist with emergency response in the cardiac cath lab, including STEMI activations, arrhythmia management, procedural complications, rapid clinical deterioration, and other urgent cardiovascular events in alignment with ACLS standards and department protocols. Administer and monitor medications, anticoagulants, antiplatelet therapy, contrast-related interventions, moderate sedation support, reversal agents, and emergency medications within scope of practice and organizational policy. Maintain sterile technique and infection prevention standards while supporting procedural setup, patient positioning, room turnover, equipment readiness, and safe workflow in collaboration with cath lab technologists and procedural team members. Complete timely, accurate, and thorough documentation of assessments, interventions, medications, procedural events, patient response, education, handoff communication, and discharge instructions in the electronic medical record. Educate patients and families regarding procedure expectations, post-procedure care, access site precautions, activity restrictions, medications, follow-up instructions, and symptoms requiring medical attention. Participate in departmental quality, safety, regulatory readiness, competency validation, call coverage, and process improvement activities that support high reliability, patient safety, and efficient cardiovascular service delivery. Qualifications Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program Licensure and Certifications: Current Arkansas Registered Nurse license, required. CPR/BLS required. ACLS required within 90 days of hire. Annual dysrhythmia competency required.
