Job Overview Fairview has an immediate opening for a Medical Assistant to join our Pediatric team at our Riverside Clinic in Minneapolis, MN This is a 0.01 FTE ( Casual/On-Call position ), non-benefits-eligible opening. Clinic Hours of Operation are Monday-Thursday: 7:00AM – 6:00PM and Friday: 7:00AM – 5:00PM. As a member of the care team, the Medical Assistant supports quality patient- and family-centered care principles through performing a variety of high-level functions within a care team to support the needs of the healthcare team and patients/families. The Medical Assistant delivers care as delegated by the physicians/authorized practitioner, or registered nurse (RN) to assigned patient populations or individual patients. Delegates care may include (but is not limited to): medication administration, vaccine administration, injections, phlebotomy (blood draws), assisting with sterile procedures, collecting vital signs. Recognizes when different approaches may be needed based on age or cultural differences. Implements assigned aspects of the patient teaching plan. Documents care in the medical record. Effectively communicates compliance and concerns to delegating physician/authorized practitioner/RN. Takes action to assure continuity of care for all assigned patient. Adheres to all relevant policies, procedures, and practice guidelines. Responds appropriately to emergent situations Functions as care team assistant as needed Communicates effectively with other members of the health care team. Documents care in the medical record. Communicates verbal and written information in a clear, concise, accurate, and timely manner. Uses communication approaches appropriate to patient/family needs Respect and ensures the confidentiality of all information regarding patients, staff members or Fairview business issues. Non-Certified Applicants with less than six (6) months of Medical Assistant experience must have graduated from an accredited school with a clinical externship Basic Life Support Certification is required. Preferred Qualifications Ambulatory Care Experience is preferred. AAMA Certification is preferred. Position Summary The Vascular Access Registered Nurse provides expert peripheral intravenous (PIV), PICC line placements and other vascular access related tasks. This includes developing (as needed) and maintaining clinical expertise in the placement of PICC lines, teaching and mentoring RN's on the floors about basic IV care such as the use of safety catheters, being a clinical expert resource for the organization in vascular access issues and working closely with the staff to improve organizational access, flow and customer experience and assisting in the development of this new program. * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. * Current MN nursing license. * BLS certification. * Current 2-3 years of pediatric nursing experience. * Current 2 years expertise in vascular access with children. * Competent in assessment and treatment of VAD sites for all complications. * Proficiency in ultrasound guided PIV placement, 1 year experience required. * Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) placement experience in children required * VA-BC certification preferred. * An informational meeting with the Patient Care Manager is required prior to awarding the position. At the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis Campus, our inter-disciplinary team of over 500 professionals is dedicated to the care of babies with life-changing diagnoses. We specialize in caring for infants needing level III and level IV intensive care, including babies born prematurely or with birth defects, congenital heart disease, genetic disorders or medical disorders; babies who need extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO); babies needing body cooling, and any baby needing surgery. We care for babies requiring complex care, such as hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, maintenance of systemic perfusion and management of organ failure. We are part of the Mother Baby Center in Minneapolis at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, which includes a large high-risk delivery service, a fetal surgery program and a perinatal clinic. Department Overview Our Minneapolis 7th floor is a 33-bed pediatric unit that provides care to infants, children and young adults in the areas of hematology, oncology, general medical/surgical care and patients needing behavioral crisis monitoring. Our team of dedicated professionals specializes in care of patients with hematology and oncology diseases, including new diagnosis, transfusions, chemotherapy administration, central line maintenance and end-of-life care. Our 7th floor staff also care for general medical/surgical patients, particularly those with non-infectious illnesses in order to maintain a clean environment for our patients with weakened immune systems. We utilize three inpatient rooms to support patients who need behavioral crisis monitoring. Our patients have an average length of stay ranging from a few days up to months depending on the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment the patient is receiving. We work collaboratively with our outpatient hematology/oncology clinic to coordinate ongoing chemotherapy treatment and system management. We value, teamwork, open communication, safety and respect. Department Overview Our care traffic control center (CTCC) is at the heart of the Children’s Minnesota organization overseeing the operations of each hospital dispersed between three campuses. Position Summary The Hospital Nursing Supervisor (HNS) directs, organizes, plans and coordinates overall activities of the hospital involving a high degree of judgment, initiative, and leadership including the ability to anticipate and positively react to technical, organizational, and administrative issues during their assigned shifts. The HNS provides leadership, coordination and management of personnel, and assumes responsibility for hospital administrative functions Monday through Friday when management/administration is not in-house and 24 hours on weekends and holidays. The HNS maintains efficient utilization of nursing resources, working collaboratively with unit leadership, the resource management coordinators (RMCs), and charge nurses. The HNS plays a critical role in patient placement, the admission status process, and the facilitation of direct admissions during routine and surge situations. This individual is visible and available to clinical areas within all areas providing patient care to facilitate patient placement, collaboration with and among charge nurses, and evaluate current and potential staffing concerns. The HNS interprets administrative/departmental policy and procedures for all personnel and acts as an administrative liaison, clinical resource, and role model for staff. They are responsible for triaging operational issues or clinical areas of concern and alerting the Administrator On-Call (AOC), Patient Care Director On-Call (DOC), or Patient Care Manager On-Call (PCM-OC) when needed. The HNS assists in the resolution of issues relating to physicians, patients, families and staff and performs investigations pertaining to incidents/occurrences during their shift as well as reporting to the on call leadership team. License/Certification/Registration: * Registered Nurse in MN required * BLS required Education: * Bachelor's degree preferred * CPI or Behavioral Health Care & Personal Safety Course within 6 months of hire Experience: * 3 to 5 years hospital-based nursing experience. * Nursing leadership experience in a hospital setting. Could include performance in managerial or supervisory roles as well as charge nurse, educator, and resource nurse roles. * Utilization of electronic health record systems (e.g., Cerner). Experience with electronic bedboard and surgery scheduling a plus.
