Department Overview The pediatric emergency department at Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis campus is the only freestanding pediatric Level I trauma center in the area. Our interdisciplinary team of dedicated professionals cares for a wide-range of pediatric trauma and injuries, such as chest, bone, spinal cord, head and neck and abdominal injuries. We care for over 48,000 patients annually and treat almost 40 percent of all pediatric trauma in the Twin Cities. Our 28-bed Level I trauma center serves our neighbors in Minneapolis, as well as outlying facilities that depend on our critical care expertise. We offer a variety of services to our community partners, including critical care transport and telehealth. Although our specialty is pediatric emergency medicine, we are a community-based hospital that serves as a safety-net for families without a primary care provider. Department Overview Our neonatal program is the largest in the Midwest. We provide the full scope of care for infants needing intensive care. At the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Children’s Minnesota St. Paul Campus, our inter-disciplinary team of over 500 professionals is dedicated to the care of babies born prematurely, those with birth defects, genetic disorders, medical disorders and any baby needing surgery. We care for babies requiring complex care, including hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, and maintenance of systemic perfusion and management of organ failure. We are a part of the Mother Baby Center in St. Paul at United Hospital which includes high-risk delivery services. The Children’s St. Paul NICU is a 62-bed unit providing level 2 and level 3 neonatal care, which allows for continuity of care from admission to discharge. Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate) to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will: Provide expert clinical care to critically ill pediatric cardiac patients, including pre- and post-operative management, hemodynamic stabilization, and complex respiratory support. Perform advanced procedures, including but not limited to, arterial and central line placement, endotracheal intubation, and chest tube insertion. Collaborate closely with attending physicians, surgeons, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans. Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives and research projects. Educate patients, families, and other healthcare professionals on complex cardiac conditions and treatment strategies. Provide coverage for day, night, and weekend shifts, contributing to a 24/7, high-acuity environment. A service week model to mirror the Attending MD schedule is challenging, but enhances continuity of care for the patients and their families. A self-scheduling model provides customized time off to help with work life balance. Demonstrate exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Required Qualifications: *Master's degree or higher from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate program. * Current national certification as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) or Physician Assistant (PA-C). * Ideally 1-2 years of experience working in a Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit or a comparable high-acuity setting. * Advanced knowledge of pediatric cardiology, critical care medicine, and hemodynamic monitoring. * Proficiency in performing advanced procedures. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. * Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development. * BLS and PALS certification required. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with ECMO management. * Experience with ventricular assist devices (VADs). * Participation in research and quality improvement initiatives. * Fellowship training in pediatric critical care or pediatric cardiology. Department Overview Our Minneapolis 7th floor is a 33-bed pediatric unit that provides care to infants, children and young adults in the areas of hematology, oncology, general medical/surgical care and patients needing behavioral crisis monitoring. Our team of dedicated professionals specializes in care of patients with hematology and oncology diseases, including new diagnosis, transfusions, chemotherapy administration, central line maintenance and end-of-life care. Our 7th floor staff also care for general medical/surgical patients, particularly those with non-infectious illnesses in order to maintain a clean environment for our patients with weakened immune systems. We utilize three inpatient rooms to support patients who need behavioral crisis monitoring. Our patients have an average length of stay ranging from a few days up to months depending on the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment the patient is receiving. We work collaboratively with our outpatient hematology/oncology clinic to coordinate ongoing chemotherapy treatment and system management. We value, teamwork, open communication, safety and respect. The St. Paul emergency department offers 24-hour access and has some of the shortest wait times in the country. In this unit, we care for patients along their continuum of acute recovery to provide for their changing physical and emotional needs as we prepare them to return home. We specialize in caring for children experiencing heart failure, after repair of congenital heart defects and heart catheterization, and before and after transplant. We routinely utilize extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and ventricular assist devices (VAD) in the care we provide. Our patient population requires hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, maintenance of systemic perfusion, and management of organ failure.
