MAIN FUNCTION: The RN is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated timeframe and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated care. Utilize resources appropriately, prioritizing patient needs and maintaining safety at all times. Participate in ongoing professional development, quality improvement initiatives, and unit goals. Registered Nurse - Outpatient Plastic Surgery Main Function Office Nurse II diagnoses and treats patient responses to actual or potential health problems through services such as case finding, health teaching, health counseling, provisions of care supportive to or restorative of live and well-being and executing medical regimes prescribed by a licensed physician, physician's assistant or nurse practitioner. Implements an established plan of care in a knowledgeable, skillful and consistent manner. Provides age appropriate care to patients. Carries out physician preapproved standing orders so that efficient and effective care is rendered. Works closely with care coordinator/case manager and other members of the care team to assure patient receives appropriate education, referrals, medications and preventative care to optimize patient health. PATIENT EDUCATION: Demonstrates awareness, sensitivity and knowledge of patient/family learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet their rights and safety. Utilizes educational information with explanation/directions, focusing on self-management, self-efficacy and health-promoting behavior changes. Provides comprehensive education to patients on new procedures, medications etc. and documents. Provides education on population management with referrals to adjunctive community services and disease management programs, as per provider order. DOCUMENTATION/OFFICE PROCEDURE: Documents accurate, concise information in the patients EMR record in a timely manner: Documents all interactions with patients, consultants, community agencies, or other facilities in order to facilitate the coordination and management of patient's care. Obtains pre-authorizations in a timely manner for medical testing, medications etc. Processes and directs laboratory specimens in an appropriate and timely manner. Performs / documents POC laboratory controls/testing as per protocol and reports results in a timely manner to the provider. Assists with clerical duties such as scanning and floor stock inventory/ordering in the office when required. Maintains a system to ensure receiving copies of consultation reports and test results in a timely manner with a follow-up system for tracking missing information. Keeps rooms stocked with appropriate medical supplies and instruments, maintaining current expiration dates and removes excess, unused supplies. SAFETY: Demonstrates and functions with awareness of safety issues as identified by the institution towards patients, co-workers and self. EMERGENCY SITUATIONS: Performs efficiently and appropriately in emergency situations. Is aware of location of Emergency Box in their office setting. Is current in CPR certification.
