ESSENTIAL SKILL/KNOWLEDGE FUNCTIONS Assists patients in and out of bed and into wheelchair with the correct use of the transfer belt. Assists patients in bathing; to include bed baths, tub baths, and showers. Assists patients in dressing or undressing. Assists patients in using bathroom and/or bedpan and peri-care. Takes vital signs of patients, e.g., temperature, blood pressure, and respiration and records information. Assists patients to dining area for meals. May be required to assist in feeding of patients and documenting intake of nourishment. Strips bedding and replaces with clean linens. Assists in personal grooming of patients, e.g., brushing hair, trimming fingernails and toenails, and shaving. Turns patient intermittently of patient is bedridden due to illness. Required to clean bedpans and empty catheter bags. Documents and/or reports information regarding the patients’ health, I&O, any change of medical condition, and care given. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS In this position, the associate is required to be on his or her feet continually throughout the day. In a full-time nonrestrictive basis, the associate must be able to lift at least 40 pounds of weight, which is required when transferring a patient from a bed to a wheelchair. A transfer belt is necessary and required when transferring any patient. This is for the safety of not only the patient, but also the aide. Other nurses are available to assist with heavier patients as needed. Description The Medical Assistant II provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Mentors and assists less experienced staff members. Responsibilities 1. Description As an integral part of the clinical care team, the Patient Care Associate is responsible for patient care and support activities promoting patient focused care within the Specialty Service. The Patient Care Associate supports the registered nurse in patient care activities, such as: assisting patient with activities of daily living, collecting specimens and performing procedures; maintaining a safe, clean environment; and other duties as needed. Responsibilities PRINCIPLES DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL PRACTICE Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination. Initiates and orders selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations and laboratory examination, prescribes medication regimens, interprets findings and alters plan of care according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. Documents findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record. Consults with physician according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
