Overview The Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper University Hospital is a pediatric facility that consists of several units that meet the diverse needs of pediatric patients: Pediatric unit, Pediatric Intermediate unit (PIMU), Pediatric Kostic Infusion Room (PKIR), and Pediatric Intensive Care unit (PICU). We provide care for pediatric patients aged 0 to 18 years. We offer subspecialty services through consultation and referral in areas such as Endocrinology, Genetics, Infectious Diseases, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, Otolaryngology, Pediatric Surgery, Trauma, and Hematology. The Family-centered rounds are conducted daily with an interdisciplinary care team including physicians, professional nursing services, child life specialists, social services, and nutrition support. All our pediatric units are secured with restricted access for staff, with visitors gaining entry via monitored access. All pediatric patients wear security tags to assure their safety. Our facilities include a teen room, a spacious playroom for younger patients, and a family waiting room. Our Pediatric unit and PIMU have 38-bed capacity. The Pediatric unit is in Kellemen building on South 7th and offers 26 beds. Experience Required 1 year of RN pediatrics experience is preferred. Education Requirements ASSOCIATES License/Certification Requirements Current NJ-RN License (Registered Nurse). Current NJ-BLS Certification (Basic Life Support). Current NJ-CNOR (Certified Nurse, Operating Room) preferred. Certain specialties may require advanced certification (i.e. ACLS, NALS, PALS). Upon successful completion of competency skills training, assist in office-based surgical procedures (Anything historically performed in an Operating Room and/or requiring moderate sedation or higher including but not limited to LEEP, operative hysteroscopy, ablations, and D&Cs with or without suction) by preparing the procedure room, ensuing the availability of necessary equipment, providing support to healthcare providers during the surgeries, and post-surgical processes including disinfection. Safely and efficiently assist patients with mobility, including transferring them between examination rooms and treatment areas. Ensure compliance with all Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and policies (including HIPAA & OSHA). Participate in team meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. The professional nurse practices within the defined scope of practice designated by the Nurse Practice Acts of Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey, depending on the assigned work site. What you will do Clinical Practice Follows the nursing process to deliver safe, compassionate, and culturally effective care. Gathers and recognizes/synthesizes assessment data to determine the patient/family plan of care, pertinent data to be shared with care team, and tasks to be delegated. Recognizes and/or seeks resources to recognize clinical changes that are indicative of patient deterioration; utilizes the CAT team when appropriate. Collaborates with the patient, family and multidisciplinary team to coordinate all facets of patient care. Develops, implements and/or revises the patient’s plan of care on admission and during the course of the hospitalization. Plans of care are outcomes focused and include goals as well as required interventions. Plans are developed in partnership with the patient, family, and the interdisciplinary care team. Care is coordinated across the continuum – understands and utilizes case management resources. Consistently follows evidence based practice bundles and nursing standards/procedures to provide nursing care that eliminates preventable events of patient harm and promotes excellent patient outcomes. Recognizes and addresses situations which present ethical dilemmas and/or moral distress. Takes steps to actively address the situation. Seeks resources as needed to resolve the situation. Demonstrates competence in teaching patients/families and progresses to an expert educator of patients/families. Evaluates and documents the care provided on each assigned shift. Effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques and good listening skills are used to empathically communicate with patients/ families, and colleagues. Education Qualifications Technical Diploma Nursing Required Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred Experience Qualifications At least one (1) year RN experience. Required Prior experience in pediatrics or area of specialty Preferred Skills and Abilities Computer Competency Basic use of a computer (mouse, keyboard, printer, USB ports). Basic use of Microsoft Office (Word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and Skype). Web browsing, intranet search, document access. Use of shared network file space.
