Job Description Position Details : Per Diem - Guthrie Corning Hospital – LDRP unit Department Details : LDRP unit is a Women’s and Children’s services unit with 5 LDRP suites, 2 Postpartum Rooms, 2 Triage Rooms and 1 OR suite. Position Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients in an acute care environment. Accountable for the delivery of coordinated, safe, compassionate, therapeutic, evidence-based quality care to patients and families, based on individual physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and appropriate care strategies throughout the lifespan. Practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the ANA scope and standards of practice. Education, License, & Certification(s): Registered Nurse in the State of Practice BSN in Nursing preferred Any previously agreed upon effective date for obtaining a Bachelor's degree in nursing between individuals and facilities will remain in effect, including those who transition to their position from the NLRN Program Any contract with specific time frames for obtaining a bachelor’s degree in nursing will supersede the above point and will remain in effect Specialty Certification is preferred BLS certification ACLS is unit dependent Experience: The Registered Nurse must be a registered nurse currently licensed in the state of employment with at least one year of experience. Alternately, the Registered Nurse may have less than one year of experience if they have been transitioned to their position from the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Residency (NLRN) Program. The Registered Nurse must meet the individual nursing unit specifications regarding educational requirements during employment. Must maintain BLS certification. ACLS is unit dependent. Specifications regarding educational requirements during employment are determined by the Nursing Department and Nursing Unit. Essential Functions: Employs Nursing Professional Practice: Assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, and evaluates patients' care. Develops updates and coordinates the patients' plan of care to achieve patient goals and to optimize outcomes and transitions across the continuum. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Position Summary: Assist physician with duties necessary to support the needs of the practice working within and to the maximum scope of license Education, License & Cert: LPN ‐ Must be licensed in the state of practice. Experience: One‐year experience in healthcare field preferred but not required Essential Functions: 1. Directs patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam or treatment by identifying height, weight, respirations, blood pressure, temperature, additional testing, and records same on chart. Will also interview patient to obtain history allergies, reconciles medication list and records on chart as requested. 2. Write or call Rx after obtaining surgeon/provider authorization for all department surgeons/providers as needed. Chart as written in patient’s chart 3. Email, fax or call in any insurance referrals. Follow up phone call with referral number to specialist if requested. 4. Assists in smooth departmental operation by filling in for other LPNs, clinical assistant and MOA’s as requested. Answers telephone and performs other clerical functions as necessary (screen calls according to urgency and need). Must train and maintain proficiency in the use of computer equipment and other computer program training as requested. Attends to exam and procedure rooms, including assurance that proper supplies are on hand, maintain order and cleanliness. Order medications or clinical supplies for the department as requested. 6. Routes patient after exam to proper area for ancillary testing or follow‐up appointments, i.e. Blood work, x‐rays, and enter lab testing as requested. 8. Basic knowledge of medications (side effects/contraindications, etc.) 9. Be able to read and review pathology results with patients 10. Setup and tear down sterile fields 11. Basic knowledge of surgical instruments 12. Prepare surgical trays as needed for procedures for the day. 13. Assist surgeon with operative procedures both in the office and Operating Room if necessary 14. Maintain infection control measures including but not limited to proper cleaning of surgical equipment and use of autoclave 15. Proficient with autoclave sterilization process 16. Knowledge and proficiency of dressing changes and suture removal 17. Assess signs and symptoms of infection and reporting to surgeon and/or provider 18. Hepatitis checks and protocol to protect surgeon, patient, and nurse 19. May perform high level disinfection, based on departmental equipment. Other Duties: 1. As assigned as appropriate for LPN licensure 2. Attend new employee orientation and all mandatory events such as in‐services, classes, training as required by the organization 3. Complies with the dress code policy as set forth by Guthrie 4.
