Summary Cellular Therapy Nurse Coordinator I (CTNC I) is an Oncology Nursing patient therapy coordination position for an experienced registered nurse who will serve as primary nurse in the outpatient setting for a designated population of patients in the Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Immunotherapy Program (BMTCI). These are cancer patients, sickle cell patients, or other patients that require bone marrow transplant or another cellular immunotherapy. The BMTCI Program is rapidly growing and changing, flexibility and emotional intelligence is required.Typical diseases seen within this clinic include lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndrome, sickle cell disease, aplastic anemia. They may also include solid cancers such as Melanoma, sarcoma, lung cancer, breast cancer, gynecologic and testicular cancers. Patients may be in the period from initial consult through long term follow up and even transition into survivorship care. Under the mentorship of an assigned Cellular Therapy Nurse Coordinator II hereafter CTNC II, The CTNC I progressively increase performance to act independently in the utilization of excellent organization, multitasking, communication, and critical thinking skills to work within an assigned patient care team to coordinate the patient experience. This coordination includes the scheduling, accuracy, and follow up on all work up orders and procedures and follow up on all ancillary teams. The nurse will assist with patient and caregiver education, communicating with all stakeholders verbally, written and electronically. Working in clinic and performing ongoing assessments, nursing interventions, maintaining documentation and fee charges in accordance with organizational standards and regulatory guidelines and performing patient education. Ability to monitor patient as anesthesia wears off and evaluate patient Properly communicates any post-op care instructions to patient Demonstrates knowledge of management of patient, including: being available to anesthesia during intubation and extubation, assisting as needed in sudden changes in patient condition and being readily available to assist as directed. Ensures that H/P, orders for the procedure, and consent form are consistent prior to placing in medical chart. Prepares and administers medications in accordance with current practice (i.e. review physician orders, pre-op antibiotics, preparing/labeling medications on/off field, utilizing the 7 medication rights, identifying high alert medications, conducting independent double checks when indicated, and narcotic waste, etc.). Assures only licensed personnel administer medications. Relays appropriate hand off communication to RN Circulator to ensure continuity of care. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills in the nursing process Demonstrates the ability to utilized recognized channels of communication. Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, coworkers, and other health team members.
