Position Overview: Under the general supervision of the radiation oncologist, non-physician providers evaluate patients, perform routine histories and physical examinations and perform and/or interpret diagnostic tests and/or procedures as detailed in the department-specific scope of practice. Responsibilities Responsibilities: Provides patient assessments through patient exams, medical history, interpretation of diagnostic procedures, and development and implementation of patient treatment plans. Provides consultation and education as a highly specialized practitioner within scope of practice. Managing follow-up patients after treatment completion. Functions independently as an advance practice registered nurse practitioner (NP) or physician assistant (PA) and consults with or refers patients to other health care providers or agencies as appropriate. Uses both advance nursing and medical knowledge in providing direct patient care. Provides diagnostic and pharmacologic management of the disease process and treatment side effects through ongoing assessment, intervention and education in collaboration with the physician. Consults on patients as requested by physicians and/or nurses and provides support as needed. Provides formal and informal educational opportunities for staff with emphasis specific to practice specialty. Successful candidates will be expected to support the department's commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. This position provides a faculty appointment at the rank of Teaching Associate in the Department of Surgery with an anticipated start date in Fall 2026. Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The Cardiothoracic Surgery Intensive Care (CTICU) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a member of the Cardiothoracic Surgery CTICU multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, residents, fellows, and RNs providing intensive care services to patients and families. The CTICU APP role promotes independent clinical practice within a highly collaborative and established team model and is well supported with dedicated 24/7 in-house CTICU intensivist support. Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for providing independent and collaborative patient management from admission to the CTICU through transfer of care to the acute care setting. Responsibilities include the following: Work on a dedicated cardiothoracic inter-professional team with other established APPs, critical care physicians and cardiothoracic surgeons in addition to the multidisciplinary team.
