Monitors and trends the cost effectiveness of the position, particularly as it relates to the efficiency and performance indicators established for the service. Assists in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable. Works collaboratively with nursing and other disciplines in the development and implementation of clinical studies within the area of expertise. Uses evidence-based health care literature to advise and support appropriate practice changes within the designated service. Formulates the plan of care, along with the attending physician, patient and family, based on expected goals of care and length of stay. Orders customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending MD or with the collaborating physician. Performs complete health history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment of patients within the designated practice or clinical unit. Functions as a respectful member of the health care team. Participates in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies. Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of responsibilities. Facilitates the continuity of care across the continuum of services, e.g. home care, other facilities, appointments with MDs etc. Provides consultation about the therapeutic regimen to the nursing staff responsible for the patients care in the hospital setting. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have: Licensure: Current registration as Professional Nurse in New York and Registration as Nurse Practitioner in New York. Certification required (as soon as feasible following graduation from NP graduate program) by ANCC or Board Certification from other specialty organization that certifies Nurse Practitioners in a clinical area of practice. Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association.. Description A nurse practitioner (NP) as described in Title VIII, Article 139 section 6910 of the New York Education Law is a RN who has earned a separate certification as an NP through advanced clinical nursing education in a distinct specialty area of practice. Nurse practitioners are independent practitioners who diagnose, treat, and prescribe for a patient's condition that falls within their specialty area of practice. NOTE: Medical orders, progress notes and treatments plans are not required to be countersigned by a physician. Responsibilities CLINICAL PRACTICE 1. Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination. 2. Initiates and orders selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations and laboratory examination, prescribes medication regimens, interprets findings and alters plan of care according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines 3. Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. 4. Documents findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record. 5. Consults with physician according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols. 6. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area. 7. Initiates referrals to specialty services and fosters continuity of care. 8. Participates in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery. 9. Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information. 10. Develops the plan of care based on the diagnoses and individual patient needs: 11. Records, reports, and interprets the clients' responses to the plan of care. 12. Performs a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion but not less than every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement. 13. Nurse Practitioner experience of at least one year preferred Licensure: New York State License with current registration as a registered nurse. State Certification: Certified by the New York State Department of Education as a Nurse Practitioner with current registration as follows: a. Is a graduate of New York State registered Nurse Practitioner Program or equivalent OR is certified as a Nurse Practitioner by a national association via examination. b. Has completed a pharmacy component of not less than the required semester hours or the equivalent AND has been instructed in New York State and Federal Laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course). c. Has a Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if less than 3600 hours experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner. OR Has a Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in clinical practice in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital. If there is a documented work history as a Nurse Practitioner with greater than 3600 practice hours. Please note all NPs regardless of their status will be placed on an FPPE initially) Education: Master's degree program designed to prepare a NP to diagnose, treat, and prescribe for a patient's condition that fall within their specialty area of practice or the successful completion of an approved supplemental education program, i.e., post-Masters NP certificate. Experience: Previous progressive experience relevant to the area of clinical practice required. For all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019, National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing required. For NPs who bill for professional services, National Board Certification is required regardless of hire date. The Board Certification requirement may be deferred up to 1 year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer or designee. Responsibilities Include: Obtaining and recording vitals as needed. Monitoring and reporting unusual client behavior. Medication administration. Document promptly and properly. Model normalized dietary habits by eating meals to completion when working during mealtimes. Qualifications: Active license as Licensed Practical Nurse (or be license-eligible). Experience in residential or inpatient behavioral health and mental health settings is helpful. Any past work with those overcoming Eating Disorders is a plus. Job Details Responsibilities will include: Assessing, prioritizing, monitoring, and managing overall care for patients that are critically injured or ill , i.e. Cardiac arrest, sepsis, diabetic coma, etc. Care for and manage pediatric patients Partnering with an interdisciplinary team including, but not limited to, attending physicians, hospitalists, registered nurses (RN), and ancillary staff to optimize patient outcomes and satisfaction Advocating for and building meaningful relationships with patients and their loved ones through safety intervention, emotional support and education Requirements: BSN with current NYS RN licensure BLS, ACLS, and PALS Minimum one (1) year ED experience Salary Range USD $54.48 - USD $74.72 /Hr.
