Practices within policies and procedures of infection prevention by demonstrating hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile and aseptic procedures, proper disposal of contaminated materials and utilizing proper attire when in direct contact with patients in isolation. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Overview Department: Surgery Schedule: Per Diem, Days with on call Facility:Prime Healthcare St. Joseph Location: Elgin, IL Responsibilities Staff RN is directly accountable to the OR Charge Nurse and the Director of Surgical Services, and indirectly to the House Supervisor. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of direct and indirect patient care in the peri-operative setting through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and older adults. The Registered Nurse coordinates the care of the patient with the surgeon and anesthesiologist, directs and guides the OR Technician and other personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. Works with other departments to provide a continuum of care and co-workers to provide continuous, quality patient care, efficient patient flow and unit maintenance and organization. Responsible for adherence to regulations, standards and hospital or unit policies and procedures. Responsible for participation in Performance Improvement activities, unit meetings and in-services. Acts as a resource for other personnel as appropriate. Qualifications EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING 1. Current and valid state RN License. 2. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current. 3. Current ACLS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current. 4. Current PALS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current. 5. Minimum of one year previous Perioperative experience or on the job training 6. Certified Nurse OR (CNOR) Certification (AORN) preferred 7. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Shift: Two 12 hour night shifts, weekend and holiday rotaitons ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provides patient care as assigned and per routine as defined by educational scope, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures. Answers call lights in a timely and appropriate manner. Documents care provided according to standards. Maintains a clean work and patient environment. Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies. Floats to various units based on identified patient care needs. Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities. Training/precepting new partners in collaboration with unit educator Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) with lab personnel Bladder scanning procedure reviewed Bladder scanner training complete (check off sheet for competency) Attaching patient to remote telemetry or bedside cardiac monitor Managing and reporting collection devices: Colostomy, ileostomy or other fecal management systems: care and output measures Indwelling catheters: care and output measures Nasogastric tubes to suction Surgical drains under direction of supervising RN Competent in completing vital signs: Manual process for blood pressure and required reporting of abnormal values to supervising RN Discontinue invasive devices under the direction of the supervising RN: Indwelling (Foley) catheters Nasogastric tubes Peripherally inserted intravenous catheters Similar devices as appropriate EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Completion of a CNA program. CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE Current CNA certificate in applicable state. Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
