Job Summary The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) – Critical Care Services is responsible for assisting in the coordination, oversight, and evaluation of nursing and clinical operations within the critical care environment. This role supports the Nurse Manager in ensuring the delivery of safe, evidence-based, high-quality, and patient-centered care across the assigned Nursing departments. In collaboration with physicians, nursing leadership, and the interdisciplinary team, the ANM assists in identifying at-risk patients, coordinating care plans, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes. This role actively contributes to quality improvement initiatives, performance metrics, regulatory compliance, and patient experience outcomes through data collection, analysis, and process improvement. The ANM maintains a professional presence, mentors staff, promotes accountability, and fosters a culture of safety, respect, and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational standards. This position also supports the Nurse Manager’s operational leadership functions including staffing coordination, payroll validation, scheduling oversight, chart quality review, staff counseling, policy development, interview participation, and patient experience initiatives. Essential Functions Clinical Leadership & Patient Care Coordination Delegates and coordinates patient care activities at the unit level to ensure safe and effective care delivery aligned with patient acuity and plan of care. Prioritizes clinical workflow and supports daily operations, including facilitation of interdisciplinary rounds and length-of-stay/discharge planning meetings. Assists in developing and implementing individualized, evidence-based, patient-centered plans of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Serves as a clinical resource, role model, and mentor to nursing staff in critical care practice standards and decision-making. Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement Monitors, evaluates, and supports improvement of clinical outcomes through participation in performance improvement (PI) initiatives, audits, and compliance activities. Collaborates with Nurse Manager and CNO to ensure adherence to regulatory standards, National Patient Safety Goals, and hospital policies. Supports data collection, analysis, and reporting for quality indicators including infection prevention, patient safety events, and core measures. Leads and supports departmental initiatives to improve patient experience scores and service excellence outcomes. Operational & Administrative Support Assists Nurse Manager with daily operational management including staffing coordination, scheduling, and assignment adjustments based on acuity and staffing needs. Supports payroll review and validation to ensure accuracy and compliance with organizational policies. Participates in chart audits, documentation quality reviews, and compliance monitoring. Assists in policy and procedure development, revision, and implementation in alignment with regulatory and evidence-based standards. Staff Development, Leadership & Human Resources Support Participates in staff orientation, onboarding, competency validation, and ongoing staff education initiatives. Conducts or participates in staff performance evaluations, counseling sessions, and corrective action processes in collaboration with the Nurse Manager. Participates in recruitment and hiring processes, including interviews and candidate evaluation alongside Nurse Manager. Promotes professional development, teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment. Patient Experience & Service Excellence Leads and supports departmental patient experience initiatives aimed at improving communication, responsiveness, and overall patient satisfaction. Models and reinforces behaviors aligned with service excellence standards and patient-centered care. Addresses patient and family concerns in real time and escalates issues appropriately to leadership when needed. Regulatory, Compliance & Committee Participation Ensures adherence to HIPAA, hospital policies, CMS regulations, Joint Commission standards, and state/federal guidelines. Participates in departmental and organizational committees, special projects, and shared governance activities. Supports continuous readiness efforts for regulatory surveys and audits. Description Job Title - Nurse Practitioner-Inpatient Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Day (12 hour shift) A nurse practitioner (NP) as described in Title VIII, Article 139 section 6910 of the New York Education Law is a RN who has earned a separate certification as an NP through advanced clinical nursing education in a distinct specialty area of practice. Nurse practitioners are independent practitioners who diagnose, treat, and prescribe for a patients condition that falls within their specialty area of practice. NOTE: Medical orders, progress notes and treatments plans are not required to be countersigned by a physician. PRINCIPLES DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL PRACTICE Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination. Initiates and orders selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations and laboratory examination, prescribes medication regimens, interprets findings and alters plan of care according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. Documents findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record. Consults with physician according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area. Initiates referrals to specialty services and fosters continuity of care. Participates in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery. Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information. Develops the plan of care based on the diagnoses and individual patient needs: Records, reports, and interprets the clients responses to the plan of care. Performs a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion but not less than every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement. Has a Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if less than 3600 hours experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner. OR Has a Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in clinical practice in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital. If there is a documented work history as a Nurse Practitioner with greater than 3600 practice hours. Administer IV fluids, provided completion of annual competency IV therapy training. 6. Monitors patients receiving blood and blood products and TPN under the direction of the RN, who administers the transfusion. 7. Makes recommendations in the application of the nursing process. 8. Participates in planning, and administers direct patient care, including activities of daily living (ADL). 9. Performs point of care testing including blood glucose. 10. Performs nursing procedures as defined in the nursing procedure manual. 11. Administers medication as defined in nursing policy. See Section D for more details regarding role of LPNs in the Outpatient Hemodialysis setting. This exception does not permit independent practice or unsupervised access to central venous lines. 14. A Hemodialysis LPN may: • Administer bolus of medications by IV push in a chronic outpatient hemodialysis treatment center, excluding first dose administration which is administered by an RN. The RN will access and care for patient’s initial catheter use. Subsequently, and following the MSHS CVAD care policy, the LPN can: • Identify and set up supplies necessary for accessing a CVAD. • Initiate treatment with a CVAD. • Draw blood specimens from a CVAD. • Perform CVAD dressing change and exit site care. • Monitor and adjust flow rates of central venous catheter access device/line. • Intervene if there is a catheter/blood line disconnection or other complications associated with a CVAD. • Provide CVAD care at the end of dialysis treatment. Description The Medical Assistant I provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Compensation The base salary range for this role is $135,000 to $183,007 and reflects the range of experience and qualifications we may consider. Final compensation will be determined based on geographic location and job-related factors such as experience, skills, education, certifications, and internal compensation considerations. While a larger range is posted, most offers will typically fall within a narrower band based on these factors. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for additional compensation, including bonus opportunities and a comprehensive benefits package. Responsibilities Provide evidence‑based, patient‑focused care that reduces avoidable hospitalizations and improves quality of life directly in the patient’s home Perform comprehensive assessments, including initial evaluations, annual wellness exams, follow‑ups, acute urgent visits, and post‑discharge visits. Educate patients and caregivers on disease management, preventive care, medications, and diagnostic testing Participate in recurring virtual integrated care team meetings Engage in quality assurance activities, including audits and documentation reviews, to ensure compliance with state board requirements and clinical best practices May practice in a variety of care settings beyond the patient’s home, including skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), assisted living facilities (ALFs), hospitals, and other affiliated clinical settings, as applicable.
