Bargaining Unit PEF Job Summary The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse 1, Post-Intervention Recovery Room (PIRR). The Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) is a full performance level nurse position and possesses a license as a registered professional nurse in New York State; under the general direction of a higher level registered nurse or licensed health care provider, independently provides direct nursing care to individuals in accordance with Article 139 of the Education Law; supervises nursing care activities; and provides clinical supervision and training to Graduate Nurses (T&RC), Teaching & Research Center Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff. Description A nurse practitioner is certified under section 6910 of the New York State Education Law and licensed as a registered nurse. A nurse practitioner provides acute/primary health care in accordance with written policies approved by nursing and medical administration. Responsibilities 1. Develops and implements a collaborative practice agreement in the specific clinical area and performs a periodic review of the collaborative agreement. 2. Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination. 3. Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations and laboratory examination, prescribes and alters medication regimens, interprets findings and alters plan of care according to collaborative practice agreement and protocols in designated area. 4. Provides teaching and counseling in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. 5.
