Job Description: RN Registered Nurse Infection Preventionist & Staff Development Coordinator Staff Development Functions: Plans, controls, and executes the implementation of new hire orientation and ongoing training programs for all personnel to ensure the maintenance and continuity of a high standard of services throughout the facility. Infection Prevention Functions: The RN Registered Nurse Infection Preventionist & Staff Development Coordinator plans, develops, organizes, implements, and evaluates the infection control program. Researches current literature and technical reports to ensure that the facility’s infection control processes and procedures are maintained to appropriate standards. Communicates compliance related issues to appropriate parties. Monitors, through surveillance and inspection, as appropriate, to ensure that proper infection prevention procedures are being followed consistently and within quality standards. The RN Registered Nurse Infection Preventionist & Staff Development Coordinator collaborates with and assists supervisors and professionals in training and educating all personnel as to the importance of required infection prevention procedures. Prepares required reports for quarterly medical staff meetings. The RN Registered Nurse Infection Preventionist & Staff Development Coordinator monitors all residents and staff infections. Tracks and oversees reporting of any outbreaks within the facility. Also coordinates and tracks IV and antiobiotic usage within resident population. Consults on wound care and tracks wounds and skin issues of all types. Provides direct nursing care as needed by the Nursing Services Department. The preferred candidate will be wound care certified in accordance with requirements of the CMS Mega Rule. Must hold a current state RN license and be a nurse in good standing. Must meet all applicable federal and state licensure requirements. Ability to supervise and instruct others. Attention to detail, good follow through skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Previous experience in a hospital or long term care facility. Must be knowledgeable of general, rehabilitative, and infection control requirements, OSHA laws and regulations, nursing and medical practices, and guidelines governing long term care. A Surgical Technologist at this level is new to the role of a Surg Tech and requires training in order to be fully proficient in all required surgeries on infants and pediatric patients. The Surgical Technologist I provides assistance during surgical procedures by passing sterile instruments to the surgeon. As directed by the surgeon, may hold retractors, sponge or suction operative site, and apply electrocautery within the surgical technologist’s scope of practice. Performs routine and delegated duties before, during and after surgery according to Connecticut Children’s standards, policies and procedures. This includes scrubbing and other related duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to maintain sterility during surgical procedures. Preoperative-20%: Assists Registered Nurse in gathering appropriate supplies for cases. Assists team members to place and position patients on the Operating Room table. Identifies specific care needs as related to the patient’s age group and size. Includes but not limited to: instruments, bed size/type. Places equipment and supplies in the operating room and arranges instruments, according to instructions. Intraoperative-60%: Distinguishes between core and specialty cases in each service. Identifies core cases for assigned services and performs first scrub role, directly assisting the surgeon by passing sterile instruments and supplies at the sterile field. Performs duties associated with the second scrub role, including but not limited to: holding retractors, sponging or suctioning operative site, applying electrocautery within the surgical technologist’s scope of practice, as directed by the surgeon. Predicts and anticipates surgeon’s requests based on knowledge of the case Aids OR team members to don gown and gloves. May assist with doffing as needed. Follows all safety policie Ensures a sterile and organized environment by using principles of good aseptic technique Collaborates with circulating RN to correctly account for countable items at the sterile field according to policy and procedure. Responsible for mixing, labeling and dispensing drugs and solutions to surgeon from the sterile field. Assures and maintains supply of fluids, solutions and drugs. Postoperative-10%: Prepares and applies dressings to surgical sites post-surgery. Washes and sterilizes equipment when necessary following manufacturer’s recommended instructions according to AAMI standards. Returns unused sterile supplies and ensures equipment is in the correct location. Restocks room supplies as needed. Prepares for cases for the following day. Assists with preparation, maintenance and after-care of supplies, equipment, and facilities with the OR. Check stock: instrument, sutures, supply expiration dates, working order, stock integrity. -10% Performs other job-related duties as assigned Education and/or Experience Required: Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Surgical Technology Program. Education and/or Experience Preferred: Experience: Prior Surgical Technician experience and/or healthcare experience. License and/or Certification Required: Certification as Certified Surgical Technologist through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assistants within 6 months of start date in job. JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The hospice aide works under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs various tasks as assigned in accordance with the patient’s plan of care to meet the patient's personal needs and to promote comfort. The hospice aide is responsible for reporting and documenting observations and care performed. The hospice aide will be assigned in a manner that promotes quality, continuity and safety of a patient's care. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities of the hospice aide include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Performing personal care needs after given a patient's assignment and attending to his/her requests promptly. If unable to perform a certain task, report to the Case Manager immediately. 2. Providing patient and family with positive communication techniques, within realm of ethical and respectful care, including confidentiality. 3. Meeting safety needs of patient and using equipment safely and properly (foot stools, side rails, O2 etc.) 4. Giving personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos and changing bed linen as often as assigned. 5. Assisting in dressing and undressing patients as assigned. 6. Assisting in feeding the patient as assigned. Hospice Aides may not provide patients with homemade food items or baked goods that they themselves prepared 7. Providing proper care and observation of patient's skin to prevent breakdown of tissue over bony prominence. 8. Reporting any complaint of pain or other symptoms or changes in the patient's condition to the RN Case Manager. Also aware of the caregiver or other individuals living with the patient and interpersonal issues. 9. Assisting in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist. 10. Provide normal range of motion and transfers/positioning as directed. 11. Assistance with self-administered medications as allowed by state regulations, such as “reminders.” 12. Offering and assisting with bedpans and urinals. Providing assistance as assigned with light laundry needs, emptying waste baskets and other light homemaker tasks. 13. Performing range of motion and other simple procedures as ordered with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency. 14. Providing respite for patient's/family/caregiver when on-site, as appropriate. 15. Keeping patient's living area clean and orderly, as assigned. 16. Adhering to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct. 17. Participates in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities. 18. Respectful of patient and family/caregiver environment and patient's personal needs. 19. As a mandatory reporter, reports failure to comply with the requirements of the Dept. of Health as required within 14 calendar days, using Dept. of Health forms. 20. Reports suspected abandonment, abuse, financial exploitation, or neglect of a person in violation of the department of social and health services and the proper law enforcement agency. Reports must be submitted immediately when the reporting person has reasonable cause to believe that abandonment, abuse, financial exploitation, or neglect of a vulnerable adult has occurred. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS 1. Completion of a state approved certified nursing assistant course or equivalent training 2. Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC) 3. Current Healthcare Provider CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification ((may not be internet based unless the demonstration of skills was hands on and observed by a certified trainer) 4. Current Food Handlers Permit 5. High school diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED) 6. Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given. 7. Understands hospice philosophy, comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill. 8.
