Overview The Periop 101 Registered Nurse in the Operating Room has existing experience as a Registered Nurse but is new to the perioperative patient care environment. In some cases, a new graduate RN may be considered with relevant clinical exposure to the perioperative setting. This position requires attention to detail, a willingness to be taught in a new and fast-paced environment, ability to take constructive feedback, and the ability to critically think quickly and solve problems. The Periop 101 RN will participate in a structured, hybrid, instructor led Association of periOperative Registered Nurses Periop 101: A Core Curriculum course over a number of weeks. Education received is an investment and will take 9-12 months of training. It includes required reading and keeping notes in preparation for an exam to pass the course. The Periop 101 RN will commit to completing the program, transitioning into a standard OR RN position which includes call, and staying in their position for a minimum of two years following completion of the program. Assists in the delivery of cardiac health care and patient care management in the adult population by performing selected clinical and administrative duties. This role would service the hospital-based outpatient cardiac surgery and structural heart clinics. Duties And Responsibilities Assists providers in preparing for office visits. Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes patient histories and vital signs and performs medication review. Performs phlebotomy and EKG as needed. Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary supplies. Assists with ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment. Assists with scheduling of tests and treatments and follows through with referrals when indicated. Screen telephone calls for a referral to a nurse or provider. Maintains patient files and records and other information according to established office standards. Implements orders under provider direction and notifies patients of results as requested. Position Summary The weekend hospice registered nurse works Friday 8am-4:30am, Saturday 7am-7:30pm, and Sunday 7am-7:30pm, and is included in the on call schedule on a rotating basis. Responsibilities to include: Nurse Practitioner: Diagnose and treat acute, episodic or chronic wounds under the supervision of the outpatient wound care clinic physicians in a clinic or facility setting. Focus on health promotion and disease prevention. Provides clinical services and develops and implements plan of care in conjunction with collaborating physicians. May order and interpret diagnostic test such as lab work and imaging. May prescribe medication within scope of practice. Physician Assistant: Diagnose and treat acute, episodic or chronic wounds as a part of a healthcare team both in an office and facility setting under the supervision of the outpatient wound care clinic physicians. Care planning, follow-up visits, updating treatment plan including medication, ordering and interpreting lab, imaging and other diagnostic testing in the medical record as appropriate and within scope of care. May prescribe medication within scope of practice. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing or Physician’s Assistant Program Current Louisiana State APRN or PA Licensure Current ACLS certifications through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off. Strong computer skills Eligible for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana as approved by St Tammany Health System. Good organizational skills.
