Join the University of Chicago Medicine as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) on the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. In this role, you will provide direct primary health care to patients, in collaboration with consulting physician and the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentials committee, to include identification, management, and/or referral of health problems. Conduct comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develop patient care plans within clinical nursing practice and medical care protocols. Demonstrates appropriate population specific techniques with patients. Documents administration of over-the-counter medications and/or other medications in Epic per policy or protocol. Cleans, prepares and stocks exam rooms, treatment rooms, and workstations. Calls patients regarding test results and medical instruction under the direction of a Physician. Calls in medication refills under the direction of a Physician or protocol. Documents patient care information in the outpatient medical record according to standards. Assists with scheduling of patient tests, procedures, and follow-up appointments. Assists in the care, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment and instruments. Maintains the inventory of medical and linen supplies. Maintains quality control for equipment. Provides cross coverage to other clinical areas as assigned.
