Seasonal Registered Nurse Medical Surgical

Job Summary and Qualifications As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in line with the requirements of the department and the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. What you will do in this role: Assess the patients condition during admission and each scheduled shift, promptly identifying and reporting any changes in patient status. Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s), and ensure thorough and timely documentation of care administration in the patients medical record. - Administer prescribed medications, monitor the patient for therapeutic response, and take appropriate action in the event of an unintended response to the medication. Provide exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests, proactively anticipating patient needs, and resolving them. Educate patients, families, and caregivers about the patients medical condition, treatment plan, medications, possible side effects, and follow-up measures, ensuring complete understanding by translating complex medical terminology. What qualifications you will need: PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS Applicable to all hospitals in the Austin market, unless specifically noted for select facilities. All seasonal staff are required to work a minimum of 72 hours per pay period during the seasonal period. Regardless of start date, seasonal program/assignment ends on March 31, 2027. Within a close geography, you may be asked to float to another facility that has an emergent staffing need. Four (4) weekend shifts are required each 4 week schedule period. During the course of the 32-week period, the employee is required to work two (2) holiday shifts (defined by Department Manager or designee), if holidays fall during their temporary assignment period. Seasonal Staff are TEMPORARY status employees and are subject to first call-off. There are no guaranteed hours by the hospital. Seasonal Staff will not be eligible for benefits. Registered Nurses who are in the Seasonal program will have one opportunity to pass the clinical competency evaluation. Current FT/PT & PRN employees are not eligible to join the Seasonal program. Registered Nurses who join the Seasonal program and have a nursing compact license with a state other than Texas, will not be required to obtain a Texas Compact License while in this TEMPORARY status. Active HWS employees or former HWS employees who have worked with HWS in the prior 3 months are not eligible for the seasonal program. Shifts may vary based on the needs of the department. Qualifications Graduate of a nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). One year of RN experience required. All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020, and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date. All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire. 1 year of inpatient RN experience required. RN Travel experience strongly preferred. External traveler or float pool experience preferred. Mayo Clinic cross-site experience preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills. License and Certification (Must obtain prior to start date) : Current multi-state RN licenses: Minnesota, Wisconsin Arizona, and Florida BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post-start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, and Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers). Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification (s) and/or training as required by the work area. Exemption Status Nonexempt Compensation Detail This position offers a fixed hourly rate of $66.80. In addition, a travel stipend may be provided, with current amounts reviewed and adjusted quarterly.
