CORE JOB SUMMARY The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) d elivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. The ARNP is also e xamines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories. 2. Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients. 3. Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs. 4. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities 5. Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability. 6. Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations. 7. Monitors the effectiveness of interventions. 8. Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients. 9. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals. 10. Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools. 11. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. CORE QUALIFICATIONS Education: Master’s Degree Certification and Licensing: Graduate of master’s in science in Nursing with approved ARNP Curriculum or higher Florida Licensure as ARNP from Florida Board of Nursing Board Certification as ARNP from nationally accredited organization such as American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form . Department Specific Functions The APRN will perform a patient assessment to include medical history and physical exam and in collaboration with the physician mentor and develop an appropriate plan of care in the direct management of patients with several eye conditions, including neuro-ophthalmology and glaucoma, as well as exploring areas of consult services, ocular surface services, oculoplastic, and tele - ophthalmology/virtual care. The APRN works directly with staff, administration, patients, and families to ensure quality care across the continuum as an expert in selected practice areas. The APRN integrates current knowledge of professional issues, trends in health care and technological advances into the scope of practice. Additionally, he/she participates in the collection of research data, quality improvement, discharge planning and coordination of patient care. APRN role responsibilities within scope of license include: Follow non acute chronic neuro patients that need continued care Follow non acute (cornea, retina, glaucoma) patients that need continued care Facilitate visual fields, refractions, testing, etc. Facilitate referrals to subspecialties and other referral requests. Clinical Role Provides care to a select group of patients by determining and rendering advanced nursing and medical interventions. Assessment/Diagnosis: Assesses patients by interviewing/examining the patient, reviewing the patient’s medical history, physician’s diagnosis and orders, diagnostic test results to determine medical diagnosis, plan of care and monitor patient’s progress. Performs physical assessment. Reviews the medical record including physician/consultation notes, lab and diagnostic tests results. Formulates medical diagnoses based on the above data. Collaborates with physicians through discussion and assessment of diagnoses. Planning/Outcomes: Develops a plan of care from the assessment/diagnoses and physician collaboration. Identifies expected outcomes based on the assessment/diagnoses and physician collaboration. Includes interventions in plan of care that reflects expected outcomes. Documents and coordinates plan of care. Provides p atient/family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, treatment outcomes, possible complications , medications, discharge planning and lifestyle modification. Integrates current knowledge of professional issues, trends in health care and technological advances into scope of practice. Implementation: Institutes n ecessary actions as outlines in the plan of care. Collaborates with team members to ensure implementation of plan as described. Implements physician orders per protocols . Communicates plan of care to team members. Assists in the management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during patient care. Engages in performance improvement activities to support the mental health needs of our patient population. Evaluation: Evaluates the patient’s progress in attaining expected outcomes by follow-up with collaborating physician. Evaluates as warranted by patient’s condition, daily, by assessment of physical findings, lab and diagnostic test results. Formulates new plan of care as determined by evaluation. Consultation/Collaboration: Consults with collaborating physician(s) on implementation, evaluation, and revision of treatment plan. Coordinates care with interdisciplinary healthcare team in the development and implementation of plan of care. Facilitates communication between the nursing staff and physicians with leadership skills and on-unit mentoring. Collaborates with members of the education department and units’ leadership team in planning educational opportunities and competency evaluation for nursing staff members. Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary rounds and ensures appropriate and quality care for patients. Rotates and refers to support services as needed. II. Research Initiates and/or participates in hospital research activities. Utilizes research finding and nursing theory in clinical practice. Promotes evidence-based/knowledge-based nursing practice. Collects data for patient and program evaluation and participates in quality assessment and improvement activities. CORE JOB SUMMARY The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) d elivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. The APRN is also e xamines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories . Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients. Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability . Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations. Monitors the effectiveness of interventions. Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals . Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools. Department Specific Functions The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine is searching for an Advanced PracticeRegistered Nurse (APRN) to work along the Interventional Cardiology team at UHealth , both in the outpatient and inpatient services. The selected candidate will provide direct clinical care to cardiovascular patients and should ha ve experience in cardiology/ interventional /c ardiac ICU experience and be able to work independently or with minimal supervision. Accountabilities The APRN will work with supervising faculty members to manage all patient medical needs. Complete H&Ps, consent reviews, post-procedure assessments, medication adjustments, and discharge planning for cardiac cath , PCI, and structural heart procedures. Perform daily rounds, review diagnostics (EKGs, labs, imaging), develop care plans, and coordinate with the interventional cardiology attending and multidisciplinary team. Educates and guides patients on disease prevention and healthy lifestyle habits Educate patients and families on procedures, medications (e.g., antiplatelet therapy), risk-factor modification, and follow-up care, ensuring continuity between cath lab , clinic , and inpatient settings. Understands the changes in health promotion throughout the aging process T riage in-basket messages, respond to urgent clinical issues, communicate abnormal results, and ensure timely follow-ups to improve patient flow and procedural readiness. Emphasizes preventative care and disease management Prescribes needed medications Provides episodic and chronic care management, as well as screening and educational assistance to the clinic’s patients Recognizes diversity of patient population and treats all warmly and kindly Works in harmony with other members of the healthcare team to provide the highest standards of quality care to patients Provides quality care to patients by following the most current evidence-based guideline and procedure of practice Follows the clinics’ evidence-based guidelines, perform common vaccinations and diagnostic screenings Provide clinical support to cardiology off-campus site Identify patients for eligibility for research protocols as per IRB standards Takes part in quality assurance audits, including continuing education, CP review, medication administration review, and peer review Ensures UHealth’s objectives regarding financials, patient engagement, patient satisfaction, and healthcare quality Ensures participation in continuing nursing education and training to keep abreast of current developments in the industry Ensures state licensure and national certification remain current and valid Ensures continuous flow of communication with leadership of healthcare clinic to enhance quality of healthcare service to patients Perform other tasks that may be assigned by the superior Position Requirements: Master’s Degree level Family Nurse Practitioner program , has national NP/AGNP/Adult-Gerontology certification Current National Board Certification State of Florida license to practice as Advanced Practice Nurse Minimum of 5 years of APRN hospital and cardiac experience required Any combination of relevant education, work experience and/or certifications will be considered Other: Effective verbal, written, and electronic communication skills Outstanding organization skills and ability to multi-task Initiative, creativity, problem-solving ability, adaptability, and flexibility Ability to work without direct supervision and practice autonomously Ability to collaborate with professional colleagues as necessary to provide quality care Ability to consistently present a friendly, welcoming, and professional public-facing appearance Experience with EPIC strongly preferred.
