NICU Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is seeking a NICU Nurse Practitioner at 50% - 100% FTE. SIGN-ON BONUS OF $20,000 for qualified candidates. (*Must be hired at 75% FTE or greater; Internal candidates are not eligible for sign-on bonus.) This position will provide overall medical care and provide medical management for patients, exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided. This role will function independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver, and evaluate health care for the inpatient NICU population. Extensive focus is caring for hospitalized patients to manage care and length of stay, improve resource utilization and decrease costs to patients and the institution while providing personalized care on 24/7 basis. Position Responsibilities Assesses the patient’s health status by means of history taking, physical examination, laboratory studies, and any additional means that are determined to be appropriate, including, but not limited to, performance of the following procedures: PICC line insertion, lumbar puncture. Plans and communicates treatment programs relating to the health aspects of the patient’s needs. Recognizes, discriminates, and manages acute illness, chronic conditions, and disabilities. Determines and facilitates referral and consultation needs in a timely manner. Completes medicine documentation and billing procedures according to institutional and departmental guidelines. Integrates health information into the diagnoses and treatment plan for each patient and may assist the patient and family in the implementation of the plan in the community. Provides an ongoing health education program for patients and their families, utilizing all available media. Initiates therapeutic measures using independent judgment according to recognized clinical guidelines. Completes MAC, human resource, outreach, and other administrative paperwork. Performs other projects as assigned. Assumes responsibility for supervisory and administrative activities and special projects as delegated by the Nurse Pracitioner Supervisor/Medical Director. Ability to synthesize scientific, behavioral, and humanistic principles for application to clinical practice at the advanced nurse practitioner level. Understands nursing theory, pathophysiology, and pharmacokinetics with ability to perform patient and family assessment by means of an appropriately comprehensive history and physical examination, develop differential diagnosis based on history, physical and interpretation of appropriately ordered tests and evaluations, develop a plan of care and implement treatment including referrals and prescriptions, and evaluate patient responses to health, illness and treatment. Knowledge of and ability to document/report interventions and patient/family responses. Ability to identify patient/family/community care and education needs. Develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan, coordinating care as indicated with referral and consultation resources, community support agencies, schools, and local primary care providers. Knowledge of research activities, research findings, and quality improvement principles related to patient outcomes with ability to participate in development and implementation of such activities. The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences is seeking an 80-100% Physician Assistant (PA; PD03; 11) or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP; PT35; 11). The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences intends to hire at either the Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) level based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Working with oculoplastic faculty, the candidate will provide specialized clinical care within the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, focusing on oculoplastics and related ophthalmic subspecialties. Position Responsibilities Patient Evaluation & Clinical Care Obtain and document comprehensive medical histories; perform system-focused or symptom-specific physical examinations. Conduct routine eye exams, including slit lamp evaluations. Form differential diagnoses and manage both acute and chronic ophthalmic conditions. Address urgent ophthalmic issues such as infections, chalazia, foreign bodies, post operative ocular irritation, and chemical/thermal burns. Provide evaluation and ongoing monitoring and support for thyroid eye disease (TED) and anophthalmic socket patients. NNP’s will rotate through two hospitals MercyOne W.
