UI Walk-in Clinics provide care to try to save our patients a trip to the emergency room. We’re open evenings, weekends, and even some holidays. Our clinics are responsible to assess a wide variety of patients from newborn to geriatric and ensures patient care standards are met and provide access to additional care options not normally found at your traditional walk-in clinic, including X-rays, IV fluids, and stitches. We utilize a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that encourages teamwork between multiple disciplinary teams to provide the most comprehensive care to our patients. BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY Function as an Advanced Practice Nurse and change agent incorporating the primary role of nurse practitioner and the supporting roles of consultant, educator, researcher and administrator to support quality care and positive patient outcomes for adult Gastroenterology patients. Characteristic Duties And Responsibilities Assure clinical competency and expertise in area of specialization. Function independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver and evaluate health care for motility disorder patients. Collaborate with nursing staff/nursing administration to monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care. Determine nursing care requirements and develop programs for motility disorder patients, with regard to patient condition and age, and follow universal precautions. Promote health maintenance that spans the continuum of health from outpatient to inpatient settings and back to the home care arena. Perform medical diagnostic, therapeutic procedures, and prescribe, dispense or deliver medications when a collaborative practice agreement is in place. Preform procedure consent and history and physicals (H&P) in DHC procedure unit as desired. Maintain responsibility for obtaining patient history and physical, and obtaining procedure consents in the Digestive Health Center procedure unit. Provide anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families. Document patient assessment and plan of care in the medical record and generate appropriate health reports for outgoing correspondence. Initiate and coordinate referrals to other health care team members or agencies. Serve in a consultative resource capacity by providing expert knowledge and behavioral skills that impact clinical practice and patient outcomes. Participate in the development, utilization and evaluation of resources to meet patient/family educational needs.
