Responsibilities Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories and physical examinations. Diagnose and manage common gastrointestinal conditions such as: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) Peptic ulcer disease Chronic liver disease Viral hepatitis Pancreatic disorders Constipation and diarrhea Gastrointestinal bleeding (as appropriate) Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory, imaging, and pathology results. Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans. Prescribe medications and monitor therapeutic response in accordance with state regulations. Provide pre- and post-procedure evaluation for endoscopic procedures. Educate patients and families regarding disease management, medications, nutrition, and preventive care. Coordinate referrals and collaborate with primary care providers, surgeons, oncology, radiology, nutrition, and other specialists. Document clinical encounters accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record (EMR). Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with regulatory standards. May assist with inpatient consults, hospital rounding, or procedural support depending on practice needs. Surgical Support Function as first assist during vascular surgical procedures, including open and endovascular interventions. Assist with vein harvesting, wound closure, vascular exposure, and other operative responsibilities as delegated. Participate in perioperative assessment and management of surgical patients. Description MaineHealth Maine Medical Center, Portland, ME,is recruiting for a Physician Assistant (PA) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) with 3-5 years of critical care experience to work at Maine Medical Center providing coverage for cardiac patients primarily in an adult ICU setting.You will be joining a comprehensive Cardiac Surgery Program which consists of 6 Cardiac Surgeons and 25 PAs/NPs with upwards of 1400 cases annually. This is a wonderful opportunity to work in an exciting environment with a broad scope of practice.The APP team works with a high level of autonomy supported by the Cardiac Surgeons and Cardiovascular Critical Care Intensivists to provide a high level of care for this leading-edge program. Cardiac surgery at Maine Medical Center is at the forefront of minimally invasive valve platforms, such as TAVR as well as advanced heart failure treatments, including ECMO and VADs. The primarily focus of this role is managing postoperative cardiac surgery patients in the CTICU with the possibility of covering the step-down unit and intermediate care unit when needed. This is an inpatient only position with goal of full privileges to perform bedside procedures independently. Minimum Qualifications 3-5 years of critical care experience preferentially in a Cardiac Surgery setting; bachelor's degreerequired; master's degree preferred; successful completion of accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program; current license issued by the State of Maine or eligible for licensure; current ACLS and BLS certification. Procedural Responsibilities Perform office-based procedures as permitted by training and credentialing, including: Catheter insertion and management Voiding trials Bladder scans Bladder instillations Post-operative care and wound management Patient Education Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, lifestyle modifications, and preventive care. Provide counseling regarding surgical procedures and post-operative expectations. Promote adherence to treatment plans and follow-up care. Collaboration & Coordination Collaborate closely with urologists, nurses, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals. Coordinate referrals, consultations, and continuity of care. Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and quality improvement initiatives. Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and quality standards. Participate in clinical audits and quality assurance activities. What Allara Offers Annual base salary range: $120,000 – $130,000, and can increase up to $172,500 - $182,500 through our incentive compensation program.
